The RAF Retires 30 'Quick reaction alert ' Typhoon jets .

It's just like scrapping Spitfires before the Battle of Britain These jets are used to protect the skies over Britain from attacks from the likes of Putin .Has that numpty Grant Shapps been meddling.

The problem being OG is that these planes don't come anywhere near end of life, and once they are taken out of service they will become scrap. When you have someone like Shapps in charge of defence with absolutely no military experience we are in deep trouble. He's not even experienced a weekend away with the boy scouts. Not sure if there's anyone in government...

Britain needs to spend more on defence the way threats are promised from Russia. and This Mickey Mouse Govt in charge at the moment are saying that just an increase of 2.5% would amount to an extra £9 billion.Perhaps if they stopped handing out contracts to their chum club members, the likes of Baroness Mone and the rest of the Con Crony Club members and made the rest of the Tory MPs stitch up their pockets ,Then they could afford more spending on Defence .

I'll be glad to see the back of this tired, divided Tory government but the prospect of a Labour government with its own divisions and a "pragmatic" (i.e. vaccilating) leader doesn't fill me with hope that our great country can be steered to "sunny uplands".

Has Keir announced his plans yet for increasing defence spending?  I remember in the 70s/80s when lots on the left wanted to cut defence spending. "Butter not guns" Have times changed?

Keir has plans, the main one is to look into the fraud cases, especially the ones in the last 3 years, you know the ones that the cons are trying to kick into the long grass and are hoping will go away. No they won't. :0)

So no, no plans to increase defend spending significantly apart from a bit that let's hope may be recouped from Miss Mone from the existing Fraud Office investigation if found guilty. How many jet fighters will that buy, I wonder

Think you've lost the plot, we already have the planes. The 200 million from the crooks will keep them in the air. Keep up.

5.49. I might spend a penny or two in Lanzarote this year and sit in the sun. :0))

Sounds really wild!

Keep up, nicebloke- £200 million would help a tiny bit (if there was any chance of getting anything like that back from Miss Mone which won't happen under Keir or Rishi), but out of a defence budget of around £50 billion pa it's neither here nor there. Did you read webbo's link?

But the Ministry of defence has been pretty quick of the mark to award a £560m contract to extend the life of HMS Victorious a nuclear  Submarine .Wonder which of the Tory Mps lobbied for the Contractors, or was Doug Barrowman and wife involved.??

Gulliver would you like to name the defence contractors who have skills to carry out this submarine life extension? Then we can decide from the list which one was likely to be have been fraudulently awarded the work by the Tories??

Question Author

HMS Victorious is one of the Navy's four Vanguard Subs which carry Trident ballistic missiles .Are these the missiles that just go plop next to the sub when fired , as Grant Shapps has witnessed..
