//Claims survivors of the 7 October Hamas attack on Israel faced discrimination at Manchester Airport are being investigated, the government has said.

The Jewish Representative Council for Greater Manchester said two Israeli nationals had "faced aggressive questioning" by UK Border Force officials at the airport on Sunday.

The council alleged the Nova Music Festival victims were discriminated against "because they are Israeli".

The council said two survivors "had been invited to share their experiences with the Jewish community in Manchester".

In a letter posted on X, the council wrote: "Upon arrival, when Border Patrol noticed they were travelling with Israeli passports, they were asked why they had come to Manchester.

"They were informed that they would need to be questioned.

"The only reason for their detention and interrogation was because they are Israeli."

The council said the men were detained for two hours, and that it was in possession of a video showing a male officer "speaking in aggressive terms" and in a "demeaning" tone to them.

When released, an officer said they "had to make sure that you are not going to do what you are doing in Gaza over here", the letter alleged.//

Border Force are complete numpties ( I know I have investigated many of them) but I doubt if they used those exact words.

Nothing less than criminal. These overbearing oafs were on a power trip. They are supposed to ensure the nation's securityand use common sense with their enquiries.

These people would deter any innocent visitor to visit this country.I was treated similarly by immigration at Fort Worth and vowed never to visit the USA again. I was on a transfer to Canada. I never will go to America.

The US is renowned for it, Retro.  I can't remember ever having a pleasant time at any US border - but for our border guards to say they "had to make sure that you are not going to do what you are doing in Gaza over here", is just appalling.

Agreed. Ignorance in the extreme.

Isn't that what the Border Force are paid to do every day ? The Border Force stop and interview thousands of travellers a day, and once they are happy with the answers they get, the travellers are able to carry on with their travel, as this pair were able to do.

People travelling on an Israeli passport are not necessarily Jewish, so if that was why they were stopped it does not automatically mean it was anti semitic or even discriminatary.

Are they inferring that the Border Force officers were Muslim and hostile to them because of the subsequent massacre of Palestinians in Gaza ?

//Are they inferring that the Border Force officers were Muslim //

I see no suggestion of that, Gromit.

When I went to work in US I wore a Homer Simpson T-Shirt. They were actually laughing at it.

OK, I did have a H-1b visa I suppose.

At least until somebody does something that they do over there.

Then the borderistas should have been more rigorous and vigilant.

Need to see the outcome of the enquiry but at first look I cant see anything really wrong there.  Border Force are, and should be, strict. And have you seen the types they have to deal with.

//Border Force are complete numpties//

Utter Nonsence, there are far more out there than you would ever come into contact with, dont tar everyone with the same brush because of your limited dealings with them.  For instance ever been in a foreign country when they are trying to evacuate people?

//Are they inferring that the Border Force officers were Muslim //

Whilst the article does not infer that it wouldnt be unreasonable if the BF did take that angle.  As you say Gromit not all Israelis are Jewish and not all Isrealies are good people by any means.

All pretty standard stuff from the TROP fan club.

If one of the guards actually said those words, then it's quite scandalous and he maybe needs to be punished in some way, shaPE OR FORM. However, it may well be that the two visitors were questioned, took offence at this, and decided to embellish their tale a tad?

I decided to add "in some way, shape or form" after i had finished my post. Unfortunately i didn't realise i had it the 'upper case' key.

Question Author

So pleased you explained that Ken.  I was trying to decipher some sort of code - and failing miserably.  😂

//If one of the guards actually said those words, then it's quite scandalous//

Why?  Do you think people coming into the UK put their hands up and say "Sure I've come to commit a criminal act"?  They have to deal with all sorts of scum and sadly the scum look the same as everyone else. How would they know they were vitims of the Hams masacre? Anyone could say that and a criminal would to garner sympthy.

I try to type faster than i actually can, Naomi (if that makes sense) and am continuously catching the upper case key when aiming for the 'a'.

youngmafbog - I can assure you that I have worked with and investigated a very large number of BF - far more than you have ever come in contact with!

YMF, i know from personal experience that possible criminals don't put their hands up and admit their nefarious intentions.

They certainly wouldn't do so if spoken to in a demeaning tone and aggressive manner.

The reason for their visit could have been confirmed in a few minutes.

///far more than you have ever come in contact with!far more than you have ever come in contact with!//

Good God you are big headed.  And how do you know that anyway?

//The reason for their visit could have been confirmed in a few minutes.//

No, doesnt work like that unless you just accept what people tell you.  And I dont think we want that do we.

But as I said right up top, lets wait and see the results of the enquiry eh?
