That was in the by election: but they have not won any seats as far as I can tell in local government, I checked for our town and there are none standing in any of the wards. Does local government not matter to them so much?

with our voting system you can get a lot of support and win nothing - fair isn't it...

The Tories have held on to the mayorship in Tees Valley, maybe partly because the mayor there campaigned largely as an independent as far as I know and if he's doing a good job good luck to him.

I also note that the Lib Dems have won more council seats than the Tories in England as a whole.

It's not a good result for anyone in Oldham, except the Independents. What you are seeing in Oldham is the birth of what will be a national trend. Rochdale, next door, is due to declare at 2.30 pm. That may well go the same way, as there are many muslims living there too. Bolton has lots of muslims and that is "hung" as well. The larger the Muslim community gets, the more we'll see results like Oldham, which will then move up to a general election.

Interestingly, although the BBC fail to mention it, is that only three councils have swapped hands (last time I looked).

The TINO's only have themselves to blame.  Sooner they are ousted the sooner we can get a proper conservative party assembled. No matter what it is called.

Not quite true. Labour have won 4 but lost 1 to NOC.

Our council remains as was - NOC.

Looking at our wards: 18 Lib Dems elected and 2 greens so far. Even the posh one has gone Lib Dem

Labour losing a couple of wards in a northern mill town is not significant. The wards have not transferred to the Conservatives so doesn't make an ha'pence worth of difference to anything.

as of 7:30 on Friday evening, Reform have a grand total of 1 councillor, and the Greens have 135 (+58).

Obvious who won that battle 😀

Not as bad as I thought in Rochdale. Labour lost 2 seats, only one of which went to Galloways' WIP.
