And yet, given that Burnley has a large Asian presence (and many of their people resigned from the party due to Gaza), Labour did slightly better (21 seats) than in the 2021 local elections (18 seats).

Unfortunately for them, they needed 2 more to take overall control, so we stay NOC.

Behind a paywall but undoubtedly Telegraph nonsense.
many people, not just Muslims believe that what is happening in Gaza is appalling, and there should now be a ceasefire. Labour are not calling for a end in hostilities which is losing them support. But the Tories aren't calling for a ceasefire either, so those lost Labour votes are not transferring to the Conservative, so not much harm done. They lose a ward councillor in a northern mill town, but huge gains everywhere else.

I question where their politics really lie.

Labour's havering on Gaza and on green issues has meant that voters have turned to the Lib Dems, Greens and independents. This can happen when they seem to be so far ahead nationally that people who would normally support them turn to smaller parties instead. This is less likely to happen in a GE.

personally i do not care whats happening in gaza, or all the other wars i have nothing to do with, pick a war protest, young israelis can get massacred at a festival..well erm there just jews, where the protests against islamic murderers, or even at home with the grooming gangs or bombings ie manchester, stabbings, nah beheading of a soldier...nah palestine yea man...

An appalling excuse to stay away from the polls. Not that I think anyone needs an excuse to use their right to not vote, but stating something that is some other nation's issue as the reason suggests that group doesn't understand the system, and lack the ability to cast a vote sensibly. In which case abstaining may be a blessing in disguise. In any case it beats the rumours that the group individuals are told how they should vote, hands down. That is an affront to democracy.

Still waiting to see if this applied to the London mayoral vote.

The count has just begun.

clearly TROP doesn't think Labour is anti semitic enough.

Just hope it backfires on Khan naomi but it will be a close run thing. My wife's perfectly clean and roadworthy car has fallen foul of his ridiculous noncompliancy rules and she is spitting feathers. I am sure she is sticking pins in an effigy of him.

So do I, Retro.... along with my family and friends who have a vote.  They absolutely detest the man.

That is another issue. I was wondering why the result was taking so long; then I read on the BBC news site that the lazy &^"*&:*^"*€s had only just started counting ! Perhaps they feel it is of no importance, in which case the position should be scrapped.

I posted a link to say the count only began at 9am this morning.

We have just heard on LBC that they have counted only half the London Mayoral votes so far. Khan is about 20,000 votes ahead his nearest rival. Looks like it will be pay per mile and more knife crime for Londoners to endure as well as the hated expansion of ULEZ.

Believed about 1630hrs for the result announcement.

Well, unless they counted the block votes first, it looks like there is no hope for London.

They need signs at the boundary, "All hope abandon ye who enter here".

The Conservative mayoral candidate Susan Hall is pretty appalling (so many video clips proving she's "quality material").

So perhaps this was not so much a vote for Khan but a vote against Hall.

Yep...Khan in for London. Burnham has secured Manchester and Liveropool has elected Rotherham.

Khan with a slightly higher majority over the Tories. It seems all you have to do to win a public election is not be a conservative, that speaks volumes for how incompetent they've been over the past few years.

Seems odd that the Uxbridge election won it for the Tories because of the hated ULEZ. As we know it used to be Boris's constituency. Where are all these vociferous anti ULEZ supporters today?

Perhaps all the residents of Tower Hamlets,Brick Lane, Haringey and Hackney don't own cars.Either that or they admire the way Khan helps the bros wiv va knife crime on his patch by promising them he will curb stop and search. Hey Ho.

Alternatively, it could be that Londoners (and not just the constituencies you highlight) have voted according to their poitical beliefs.

Tower Hamlets, Brick Lane, Haringey and Hackney...hmmm....I spy with my little eye, something beginning with "D".
