The poorer areas you mention, 237SJ, were very poor, but they were filled, in the main, with people who worked hard and earned little but took pride in themselves, their country, and they cared about their communities.   Today London is the pits.  The fact that other places are also the pits (and, yes, I've  been there too) does nothing to change or to vindicate that.

Thank you.  Yes I guess it can.  It's the walking home from UCL to E2 on her own some nights that worries me.  She texts me a lot and seems not to be worried so I'll try and stop.

I didn't actually say anything about the areas being poor.  I`m assuming you are talking about the East End as it was decades ago.

Ladybirder - my friend's daugher is hoping to go to UCl.  She wants to study genetic medicine.  Probably a great place to be as a young person
