10:43 I'm not saying they will I was answering your assertion that 19% is a lot of votes to lose, 81% is a lot more so IF they were removed that would help the side that has 19% a lot more than the side that has 81%.

10:51 yes and that would apply if you ever actually had any sort of debate or argument.

a baby boomer plan to get kids off the streets. Or at least if they're on the streets they can fill potholes (putting the adults who already do the job onto the dole).

Wouldn't the money be better spent on getting proper apprenticeship setups going rather than on some Rishijugend community scheme?

that would also be an excellent idea jno. what a shame that our leaders are just not interested in actually governing this place or in trying to improve it. it's all just power for the sake of power and screw everybody else.

According to The Times, legislation will be passed to make it mandatory by the end of Parliament - whatever that means.

at the moment they can't even make up their minds what "mandatory" means. You must do it but you don't have to.

i think the deadline they set themselves was september 2025. but they also want a royal commission to iron out all the details so god knows how long that would take.

if there was any chance at all of this turning out decently then i would say... good for them. but it's the tories. they have never championed a single cause that they didn't later betray or bungle.

// IF they were removed  //

They are NOT removing their right to vote. They are NOT being removed.

A similar number as in 2019 WILL vote. I expect there will be more inclined not to vote for the Conservatives.

//we have been governed for the last 14 years by unserious people who are completely incapable of coming up with ideas and are unsuited to running a country.//

You mean like the idea that the first letter of a sentence begins with a capital letter?

well, at least we now know what Sunak was doing on his day off. Smoking something.

go sit on a hatpin

11:09, I know, I was responding to your assertion that the tories would value 19%. They would and the 81% would be valued by the rest much more.

Just be glad you don't live in North Korea - all men have to do 11 years national service there!

what a bloody mad idea - it would have made more sense to raise conscription from those overseas expats who live in Czech castles in the sky..... How to alienate the youth, not that they are traditionally to the right wing.

Perhaps hundreds of thousands of 19 year olds could be enlisted into our Border Patrol forming a defensive blockade of Calais. Then we wouldn't have to give £370Million to a dodgy African country. And give the saving to the NHS.

TORATORATORA, you're not making sense.

If the Tories lose the 19% of first time voters who had intended to vote Tory, that percentage will be split between the remaining parties.

good thinking, let's put it on the side of a bus

that was to Gromit

Terrible idea. What about 18 year olds who are working in care homes, hospitals, restaurants or running their own businesses? Should they be hoicked out?

I know it's "mandatory, but they don't have to". Just another silly idea from Sunak to ensure he can move to America on July 5th.

I read thst there would be sanctions for not doing the national service but no details about what they would be
