Speculation (hope) that he is standing for parliament.

Chingford and Woodford Green would be a good target seat. Tories only have 1,262 majority, and Labour have just de-selected their candidate and parachuted a Starmer ally in.

Might be winnable for Reform.

some years ago heavily armed members of a mexican drug cartel simply attacked the police and removed one of their own from custody.

if trump is put in jail then i think something very similar could happen. he commands the personal loyalty of a very large number of heavily armed people who simply will not tolerate him being imprisoned for any length of time.

oops wrong thread

> He managed to force another party to achieve his aim for him without ever entering parliament

"Force" - interesting word.  But yes, your party bottled it.  Farage's crowning achievement was making David Cameron overly concerned about the Conservative Party's majority.  Less an achievement of Farage, more an own goal by Cameron.

So he's standing - geat!! and the mealy- mouthed BBC who hate him, have chosen to lead with this photo on their front page,

Maybe he has struck a deal with the man dressed as a dolphin, not to stand against him.

What a dithered 🫤

What's wrong with the picture?

n. I think it's chosen to be as unflattering as possible with his open mouth, teeth-bared.  The Telegraph's is is more measured.

I wouldn't have thought anything of it.

The Lib Dems and the Greens must now withdraw their candidates in Clacton to stop Farage winning. Regretable it is has to be like this but there is now no choice

Oh, right. Won't being PM put a crimp into his plans to mastermind the Trump campaign ?

"The Lib Dems and the Greens must now withdraw their candidates in Clacton to stop Farage winning. Regretable it is has to be like this but there is now no choice"

What particular threat do you suggest Mr Farage poses if elected when, as seems likely, Labour is returned to power with a large majority in the Commons?

In 2019 the Conservatives won Clacton with a majority of more than 24,000 over Labour. The LibDems and Greens polled just over 3,700 votes between them. Are you suggesting that all those who may have voted LD or Green and will, under your plan, have nobody to vote for, will switch their allegiance to Labour? How would you feel if it was suggested that the Labour withdrew their candidate in order to keep Mr Farage from winning?

farage seems a reasonable man, speaks what millions think, britains overpopulated to many migrants illegal or otherwise, phoney politicans, failing nhs schools etc etc, if he can turn things around in the future or help to, whats the problem.

Farage could just start to end the rot in British politics, which has become directionless.
If Labour win Britain may be one of the few countries in the democratic world where the right is losing ground.
In America Trump is favourite to win. Ahead of next month's E.U. elections the momentum is with Germany's AfD, Le Penn's National Rally & Austria's Freedom Party.

Migration is the main issue pushing in this direction, but many voters are all so turning to the Right as a rebellion against the cost of net-zero policies.

Go for it, Nigel !

"Ahead of next month's E.U. elections the momentum is with Germany's AfD, Le Penn's National Rally & Austria's Freedom Party."

Isn't that always the case? Until the votes are counted anyway.

Well that was always very predictable (see earlier in this thread).
Farage gets to do the TV debates. Loses at the GE (Tories have a 24,702 majority) and Farage can spend the next 6 months promoting brand Farage and making lots of money and reputation in America.
Just a cynical money grab by a media whôre.

Very vehemently put gromit. Now go and have a lay down, you'll feel better in the morning.

// making lots of money and reputation in America.  //

I wondered if he's been told there's no job in the US any more.

"...whats the problem."

I'll give you a clue, fender:

"...farage seems a reasonable man, speaks what millions think,"

I spoke in another thread about "dark forces" in this country. I gave the pnenomenon a rather sinister name, somewhat jokingly. Most people refer to it as "The Blob". However, whatever you call it, there is no doubt that there exists in this country a body of people who despise politicians who threaten to give people what they want. They call them "populists". I prefer to call them democrats.

The electorate needs to understand that they can only have things that are approved by The Blob. These are generally things that will not cause The Blob too much incovenience and they certainly can't have anything that might cause the Blob any financial or social distress.

Mr Farage was instrumental in securing a referendum to ask the electorate a question about the country's participation in one of The Blob's most closely protected and favourite complicities in the protection of their privileges. The electorate gave the wrong answer. The Blob rallied all their troops and very nearly won the battle they fought and so deprive the elecorate of their democratic decision.

And so we come to this:

"Farage could just start to end the rot in British politics, which has become directionless"

Perhaps that will help us all understand what the problem with Mr Farage is. The Blob is still sore from the two kickings it got in 2016 and 2020. They don't intend to be on the wrong end of another pasting any time soon.

I really don't see what Farage can hope to achieve by this, apart from helping elect Starmer as PM.
