They didn't worry about passport checks 80 years ago when our fighting forces arrived to save them from years of tyranny.

Since leaving the EU the bloody French have done everything in their power to make life difficult for us Brits, but this is really scraping the barrel.

There's something about donning a 'Border Control' uniform that really can bring the jobsworth out in some people.

On a recent cruise, we were required to have our bags inspected by US Border Control teams who borded the ship and set up a room to do so.

We duly heaved our suitcases down decks and along miles of corridors, only to have them ignored by the personal, who took cursory glances at our passports, which would have to be scanned for us to be on board in the first place, and off they popped.

It's bureaocracy at its worst.

You can't be too careful. Obviously one needed to check that the British military weren't simply dropping returned illegal immigrants back the France, where they belonged.

It's the FRench, apart from the North most hate us.  When I worked in Brelgium even the Waloons hated the French.

French authorities must hate the British as they require I.D. if you land on their shores. The British must LOVE illegal immigrants that land on their shores as they welcome them in and put them up in hotels 😂😂😂

The difference is auntpoll those on boats don't have ID and claim asylum, and France would refuse to accept them back even if we knew they'd come via France. If those landing on a parachute had no passport and claimed asylum in France and we refused to take them back, i wonder what France would do.

I'm not sure what the issue is with checking passports for these parachutists. We'd expect them to be checked if they had flown in to an airport or gone on Eurostar

For one it doesnt look good at all does it.  I'm sure it could have been done more subtley but no, as AH says, don the uniform and we get images like this.

i honestly dont see what the problem is, or why people are being sniffy.  If they had their passports, they must have know they would need them.

They hardly look like they were being "forced"!

The peevish gits can set up and man "passport" stations in open fields when it suits their damaged egos but can't staff the official booths or premises at Dover or check the illegals who camp on their streets and beaches. What a vile bunch they truly are.
