Just stop mentioning the last 14 years please. We all know how bad it was but it's gone now. Yes, some people are still suffering but it's all behind us. Give us another 5 years and we'll show you we can do the same. Ooops! Well according to Johnny Mercer we should all stop saying how garbage the Tories have been. So just stop it. And Vote Labour. 😂

The problem is that no one alive today had any idea how to handle a pandemic. Panic set it, "experts" saw an opportunuty, jobsworth school prefect types loved the bit of power they'd been given.  The fact is that with hindsight many things could have been better but I have no doubt that abacus and cobstello would have been at least as inneffective probably worse. The lefties love to have a go and yes they have valid points but would their dream team have been any better? I doubt it.

If the UK gov screwed up they weren't alone. Many other countries worldwide took similar measures.

The Tory government’s response to the covid pandemic was a complete debacle – how anyone who lived through it could think anything else is beyond me.

The "government" weren't experts - they did what they did on the advice of professionals. Maybe they should have just stuck to the previously worked out pandemic plan but presumably they were advised otherwise. Any other gov would probably have done the same.

Did Labour oppose the pandemic measures?

I did not love the pandemic, what a stupid thing to say.
I thought the whole thing was badly handled by the Government - a lot of people did - which is why there is currently an inquiry.

Did the professionals advise them to party-away in Downing St?

^ No. They advised them not to.

Did the professionals advise them to send untested discharged hospital patients into care homes (and then lie about it)?

If it is any consolation Hymie, the SNP government up here in Edinburgh were just as incompetent and useless as the Tories down in Westminster.

I don't know what the professionals advised - covid enquiry

//Module 7 will look at, and make recommendations on, the approach to testing, tracing and isolation adopted during the pandemic.//

Starts on 27 June - maybe we will find out?

Did the professionals advise them to instigate an eat out to help out scheme that resulted in many thousands of additional covid deaths?

//eat out to help out scheme that resulted in many thousands of additional covid deaths?//

Baloney - if lockdown was wrong how could advising folks to go out also be wrong?

So the professionals never advised that there should be a lockdown?

^^^ first line 16.37

I remember those experts well. I also remember none of their predictions being realised. I particularly remember one of the doom goblins in Nov 2020 saying a "scenario" was that we could have 50,000 deaths a month. I said at the time that another scenario is that we could have nothing like that number. And me, without a scientific bone in my body was , significantly more correct than the experts.

If it has taught us anything it is to concentrate on the economy should it happen again and not doom goblins.

Well, the moment Boris tried to reassure the nation that we would 'follow the science' re Covid - I knew we were doomed.  I was furious then and am still  very angry about lockdown.

Having let of steam, I fan my delicate features and continue regarding Reform.  One poll, done just before Farage announced the changes in Reform and that he was standing, provided the startling info. that Reform had overtaken the Tories in the O.55 age-group.   I wish I could remember where I saw it. If this is accurate - the Tories are in really deep trouble.

Their problem is that we oldies know how hard we have been hit and we no longer believe in 'jam tomorrow'.  We look at the state of the country with the knowledge of how it was and could be - and despair.

I think we are in for the Hell of a Socialist government under Angela.

^^ 'let off steam'

@17.47.I think we will get a lot more empathy from a"Hell of a socialist government"Labour Party, than we did from a"Hell of a Conservative government"Tory Party.Just saying.

I've been watching the build-up and there was an SNP person who was an advisor to the truly dreadful Sturgeon, and the interviewer asked her why was the literacy rate in Scotland was lagging behind the other home nations.

Her answer was....wait for it....the Conservatives.

And there was me thinking there was a devolved Govt in Scotland who handles Scottish education.

im willing to give sunak another 5yrs as he has not been pm for very long in the scheme of things, labour are going to totally embrace net 0 and that will destroy industry thats already on it's knees with net 0 let alone consumers, id start fracking and re-open coal mines, start by ditching ulez.
