“Nothing great about her. She ruined the industrial base of this country.”The “industrial base” of this country was never going to endure. As well as that, more coalmines were closed under Labour than under the Tories and in case because of the country’s ridiculous energy policies (supported by both sides of the House in principle, with only minor...

To be honest, with the options before them I  can't blame 18 year olds for taking little or no interest.

Must be a worry for the non Tories though. None of them would be voting Tory.

What they've never had I doubt they'll miss.

Yeah but I think Rodders and co will be counting on the young vote, no one can afford to not have millions of votes.

Just like last time when 53% didn't vote.
It is well known that young people don't bother, but those that do, vote Labour.  For the past 5 years, Conservative policies have been anti-young people.
Labour are not going to lose the election because of low turn out of first time voters. If that is what you are pinning your hopes on, you are going to be sadly disappointed.

Gromit, the turnout in 2019 was 67.3%.  You've got your sums wrong.

Well if the 18+ voters aren't interested, so much for letting 16+ year old kids make a random selection.

naomi24,

53% of 18-24 year olds (first time voters), didn't vote.

Today's big poll from IPSOS predicts...

// Labour will likely win a strong majority. Sir Keir Starmer’s party is on track to win an average of 453 seats //.

"For the past 5 years, Conservative policies have been anti-young people."

In what way?

Oh ok Gromit.

I saw one on TV today moaning that he would if only there was on line voting. Walking to the polling station is SO unreasonable.

labour leads in every age group below 70

tories are the most popular among over 70s but still only about 40-50% say they will vote tory... reform is pinching a lot of their votes there.

it isn't true anymore that people become tory as they age. the constituency of diehard tories are mostly those who did well out of conservative policies in the 80s.

//the constituency of diehard tories are mostly those who did well out of conservative policies in the 80s. //

Or the ones who suffered under Labour in the 70s?

What over their entire lifetime could have turned them off politics and voting one wonders.

Well I know it's not the calibre of incumbents over that time, lying, cheating, feathering their nests, lying some more then disappearing as if never there.

don't worry dougie you have the SNP manefesto launch to look forward to. Camper vans all round after you vote for "Independence" - Freeeeedoooooom!

No answer came the loud reply.

no davebro the tories worked very hard under thatcher to shower advantages on a particular cohort of the population who rewarded them with thumping majorities to keep doing it.

40 years later, those same people are now in their 70s.
