Why Are Anything Other Than Hand Wringing Lefties Called "Far Right"?
https:/
Le Pen's party isn't far right they are just sensible people that put their country first. That don't buy into all the latest trobsicite rowlocks that so terrifies our lot that they refuse to confirm that only women have a womb and will embark on economic self destruct to achieve something that even if achieved will make absolutely no difference.

"...the truth is that many people (though not i suspect a majority) will be quite keen on far right ideas"
Not many would support the sort of "far right" ideas that you describe.
“…they don't usually come right out and say what they actually want. it is a crucial part of the far right MO.”
Thaat's not an MO exclusive to the far right. Conspicuous by their absence in the run up to the election were the likes of Ed Miliband and Angela Rayner. The Labour machine did not want their views on “Net Zero” and industrial relations to get too much of an airing. Also missing were pictures of Messrs Starmer and Rayner “taking the knee”:
Along with that, the new Prime Minister’s philosophy from his earlier life where he declared “all property is theft” and his tireless efforts between 2016 and 2020 to have the result of the referendum nullified were also not well advertised. The right is not alone in disguising its more radical ideas.
But left wing politicians have an undoubted advantage over those on the right (regardless of whether either are “far” or “extreme”). The (proper) Labour Party finally gaining the levers of government is the last piece in the jigsaw of the Left’s control over the State. But it’s probably not even the most significant. For decades, despite there being no proper Labour government for 45 years, the Left has gained control of just about everything that matters in the UK: the Civil Service, the judiciary, the police, the medical profession, schools and universities. Even the arts and entertainment are dominated by Left leaning people (find me a Tory supporting Thespian and I’ll find you twenty or thirty of the opposite persuasion). The Left thrived in those institutions despite successive governments not singing from their hymn sheet – anti-Brexit, anti-fossil fuels, pro-immigration and obsessed with wokery, diversity, equality and gender identity issues.
Now they have a government they can manipulate to their hearts’ content. However, they should make the most of it. Most people in the UK do not sing from that hymn sheet and once they get to realise the change that they craved is not particularly the change they envisaged, the opinion polls will swing the other way.

you obviously had better things to do than pay attention to the election newjudge (i don't blame you!) because angela rayner was not absent at all. she created quite a prominent video with Gordon Brown that went far enough for the tories to release an image making fun of it. ed milliband also turned up on my tv screen quite a few times.

erm this is simply an observation that some sections of the population are more likely to hold leftist beliefs than others. I could very well say that the right has "seized control" of big pharma and the City of London and rural england but it would not be true. the truth is that there is some correlation between right/left views and certain types of person. this is not "seizing control" this is left wing people having the temerity to exist in such a way that defies your simplistic thinking about them. i do however note that most of our national newspapers have a degree of right wing bias.

sorry hit answer early
i do not claim to know what the majority of people in the UK think. but if you look at how the UK electorate tends to vote you will see that huge numbers of people favour progressive parties, i.e. labour, lib dems, the greens. the majority of votes cast in the most recent election were for one of those three parties. so leftist causes clearly are not the fringe minority that you believe them to be.
