I see more and more people wearing horrible enamel poppy badges, some pathetically tiny.  I think if you want to support the British Legion you should buy a proper paper poppy.

But I don't think the BL should have a 'diversity officer' - nor should any organisation or company, come to that.

I buy an enamel poppy from the authorised poppy seller every year, as well as the traditional poppy. My grandson collects the enamel ones, we both like them.

Apparently they sell Rainbow poppies too - which suggests to me that the wearer is relegating the cause to second place in order to promote something more personal.

The Rainbow poppy remembers those soldiers who fought and died yet had to hide their sexuality. I see nothing wrong with that.

Mrs JtH and I have metal poppies bought directly from RBL. However, we always drop coins into any collecting tin we see at this time of year.

Mrs JtH proudly served in HM Armed Forces and sees absolutely no good reason why there should be any additions to the standard red poppy.

Everyone who served in conflict regardless of race, gender and sexuality is represented by the traditional red poppy although I understand that that fully paper version is more environmentally friendly than the plastic stem and centre 'pip'.

The need for Diversity-anythings is a modern plague on institutions and the sooner they are done away with, the better!

As for the original OP, why did they feel the need to hire a diversity officer in the first place? Has there been incidents that has resulted in the need?

I have a metal poppy that attaches to my key ring but I also buy a paper one each year however poppy sellers are few and far between around here at the moment

Looking at the pride badge, it still has the red poppy how is the pride poppy any different to the football poppies they sell.

I used to bun the RL £2/300 a year, gave up last year and found a better way of getting my money to the people that need it.

As for the mriad of poppys that is just devisive.  The standard red poppy includes all so why feel the need to separate yourslef from it.  It's almost like some feel they are too good to be all inclusive.  Well fine, but not on my dime.
