Watching the news last night,  I was gobsmacked at Starmer's ill-chosen language in welcoming the fall of Assad - tantamount to welcoming the Islamic terrorists who have taken control in Syria.  And now this morning he's telling the victors - who have apparently said they will now 'free Jerusalem'-  to renounce terror and violence.  Straightaway if you say so, Mr Starmer!  That'll show 'em!  Proof, if any were needed, that this embarrassment of a PM is living in Cloud Cuckoo Land.  He's off abroad again now speaking to Syria's Islamic neighbours - for what good that will do.

Assad or Isis (in another name) ? Henry Kissinger once said of the Iran/Iraq war that he wished both sides could lose.

Welcoming the fall of Assad. So what would you have expected him to day? His comments are no diffferent to many other leaders. Just a weak poke at Keir, noghing more.

To say^^

Just looks like the bad guys have ousted the slightly worse guys to me.

Ask any tory to give their view, and you would get the same view.

Question Author

Nicebloke, others I've heard have used rather more diplomatic language.

Such as, or give me your diplomatic response?

Question Author

Biden said Assad’s fall in Syria is a ‘fundamental act of justice,’ but also ‘a moment of risk'.  That's diplomacy, Nicebloke.

Thats the same as fall. I really think you are making a mountain out of a molehill with this one really, or just nitt picking. But eh carry on if you care.

Question Author

Okie doke.

Being diplomatic towards a murderer is pointless, ask Ukraine. :0(

Another 4 years of Starmer - perish the thought! What an embarassment to our country.

Words matter. They are especially important in Diplomacy World which is alien territory to Mr. Prime Minister and his speech writer(s).

^^ see 11.12

11.13 Can't see what your post as to do with KS comments on ASSAD?

Youre not looking hard enough. The post abbove about Starmer is valid- I read it as saying this is just another example of how he's out of his depth

Not talking about Ukraine, this thread is about Syria and Starmer, nicebloke.

You've got the wrong end of the stick, nicebloke - but that comes as no surprise.

Question Author

Perhaps this is why he and his advisers saw no need for diplomacy.

//The UK government will consider if Islamist militant group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham should still be designated a terrorist organisation after the rebels led the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad in Syria, said a minister.

Pat McFadden told the BBC the situation in the country was "very fluid" and if it stabilised any change in the ban would be a "relatively swift decision".

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) is proscribed as a terror organisation by the UK because of its past association with al-Qaeda.//

Assad was in the Russian/Iranian camp and the new lot aren't. HTS are opponents of Hezbollah and of Iran... that is why western governments are supporting them

of course it's important to note that backing terror groups for short-term political gain is a strategy that has absolutely never gone wrong or had disastrous consequences down the road. not ever not once, honest

11.22 Your stick appears to be broken on this one.
