This appalling case is now the subject of an enquiry by Surrey County Council.  Rachael Wardell, executive director for children, families and lifelong learning at Surrey County Council, said: "We are resolute in our commitment to protecting children, and we are determined to play a full and active part in the forthcoming review alongside partner agencies, to thoroughly understand the wider circumstances surrounding Sara's tragic death."

It's a bit late for that SCC - you let this poor little girl down time and time again. Are you really that naive, or just plain bloody stupid.  I look forward to your whitewash of your own culpability.

'Lessons will be learned!'  Lessons will NEVER be learned, it seems!

I am sickened by these cases.  Schools etc. raise suspicions and are then almost helpless. I've reported a girl with huge bruising myself - but was told that, at 14, she could choose to leave home and ask for help.  I wasn't allowed to tell her that, in case it was 'undue influence'.

This father said that he beat his daughter 'lawfully' - this should be ringing  alarm bells all over the country.  Whose law?

Jordain,  I had a similar experience with a young boy whose legs were covered in bruises.  It was reported to Social Services and his father admitted using a belt to punish him.  He was told not to do it again and that was the end of it. No follow up.

the girl is quite capable of saying to her  parents: "teachy-baby  has told me to leave" - figure of authority and all that

and it wd be difficult for you to say "well it  wasnt quite like that" - oh so it  occurred did it?
