this ghoulish person was quite happy to reap rewards from one of the most brutal and murderous tyrannies in the middle east. she sought out and chose a life of comfort and ease built on truly horrible suffering inflicted on her fellow creatures (reportedly including children)

good riddance to bad rubbish. Let her cherished brood of wealthy monsters look after her.

Paywall, can't access the story. She was born here so not sure why she's barred but glad she is. She can go and live with that other treacherous bee hatch who is also in Syria apparently.

I can't find any other confirmation of this.

Sanctions imposed on the British-born wife of former Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, would prevent her from being able to return to the UK.

Reports at the weekend suggested Asma al-Assadwas planning to divorce her husband and leave Russia where the family is currently in exile.

But the Government indicated that tough sanctions already on the Assads, including a travel ban and asset freeze on the wife of the former president, would stop her returning to the UK.

Downing Street would not be drawn on whether her citizenship could be revoked.

The i Paper reported earlier this month that British laws allow the Home Secretary to revoke an individual’s citizenship if they are satisfied that such a move would be “conducive to the public good”.

But No 10 pointed to remarks by Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who told the Commons earlier this month Mrs Assad “is a sanctioned individual and is not welcome here in the UK”.

Asked whether she could have her citizenship revoked to stop her coming to the UK, a No 10 spokesman said: “I think we have always said that we don’t comment on individuals in relation to this.

But more broadly you will have seen that we have very tough sanctions in place against the Assad family and the former regime, which remain in place.”

The spokesman confirmed that Lammy’s statement meant the sanctions against Mrs Assad would prevent her entering the country remains valid.

But he refused to comment on the claims that she is seeking to leave her husband.//

I doubt very much whether Asma Assad had any idea about what went on in the Syrian prison hell-holes. How and why should she?

It appears to me that as the evidence has emerged, she wants to divorce him.

So the heading here isn't accurate.  We don't know.

Do you think Jill Biden knows what goes on in the US's toughest prisons. Take your pick;

"I doubt very much whether Asma Assad had any idea about what went on in the Syrian prison hell-holes"

if she was unaware then it was out of deliberate and carefully cultivated ignorance. there were open letters addressed to her years ago calling her attention to the human rights abuses. where did she think all that extravagant wealth was coming from? did she ever wonder why her husband's enemies had a habit of disappearing? did she truly have no idea what captagon is and the deep complicity of the entire Assad family in that filthy empire? for decades?

rubbish. there's no way she didn't know. she accepted the riches and luxurious living, the palaces and the fine foods, so she's accountable for how that was all made. she's up to her neck in it.

yes I think Jill Biden knows about carceral slavery. the difference however is that the USA is not a tyranny that predates on its own people. this may of course change once your beloved trump is through with it.

Over 35,000 people have arrivd her illegally by rubber boat this year. We have no idea who they are, where they have come from, what they did when they were there or what they intend to do now they are here. As well as that it is costing about £5m a day to keep them in the manner to which they have become accustomed and a whole lot more than that once they get their feet under the table here.

Personally, I'd far rather this woman was allowed to return here and the 35,000 slung out.

Many, particularly some here in AB, would think wives in Muslim societies have very little agency.

Are we seeing another poor woman being denied the comforts she could enjoy if allowed to return to the motherland?

Ha! New Judge loves an immigrant so long as they are wealthy and have lots of blood on their hands. weird kink but ok.

You don't think she should be let back in, untitled?

I don't know what Asma Assad knew or didn't know, and neither do you. She is a British subject, born in Acton, educated in England and is dying of cancer.  She wants a divorce and return to England where, if she is guilty of anything at all she could face a fair trial, - but for what?

Her greatest crime seems to be that she was married to someone who has been deemed 'a monster',  well she isn't alone in that.

"Ha! New Judge loves an immigrant so long as they are wealthy and have lots of blood on their hands. weird kink but ok."

I neither love nor hate any individual immigrant. But - in common witth some of the world's governments - I would prefer those who are wealthy over those who haven't got a pot to pee in

What concerns me is the effect they might have on this country. So given the choice I would prefer this one woman to be allowed to settle here than the 35,000 who arrived illegally.

She would be unlikely to be a burden on the taxpayer, would probably fund her own lifestyle and largely keep herself to herself. I don't see any problem at all.

she has a right innit?

born in the Kingdom - not like Shamima Begum that they had to go to Pakistan to check if he were the father

My late dear Mama had a British Indian passport ( I think they are all dead, ) and God there was always yaya when she came back to Dover. And my daydy said helpfully - "when I joined up in London in 1940 no one worried about being born in Pretoria

born bombay  1909...- moved to London 1928 ( mumsie)

As long as the Russians don't want to bump her off after she's moved to the UK ... Novichok is nasty stuff.

Over 35,000 people have arrivd her illegally by rubber boat this year.

erm I| don t think m'lud that she is planning on arriving by rubber boat - PP bows and scrapes even more obsequiosly than he does to our wise mods
