Revellers on New Year's Eve has been named as Shamsud Din Jabbar.

Is this his real name or an adopted non de guerre?

I don't know.  Is it?  If it is why are you asking?

Idle curiosity, nothing more.

There is no excuse for his actions.  Those who knew him seem to think that it was out of character.  With him being dead we may never know why!

Really?  How odd.

TTT, why is that link relevant here?  If it reveals a different name I must have missed it.

well I thought that people should be aware there is a thread on this that is about the victims. No doubt sandy is trying to take focus away from that.

This is about the murderer though - not his victims.  I thought we were going to be Told that he's not an Islamist after all.

15:58. Perhaps you should read what people post, not tell us what you thought he might post.

I did read what was posted atheist - and my question brought no result.  Perhaps instead of criticising other people -as you do so regularly - you might consider responding to the question for once.  That would make a pleasant change.

Sorry, Naomi. My answer is, no I do not know about the man's name.

It appears it was his birth name

;

The suspect's brother, Abdur Jabbar, told The New York Times that they last spoke two weeks ago. He said Jabbar did not mention any desire to go to New Orleans.

The 24-year-old said that they had both been brought up Christian, but his brother had converted to Islam a long time ago.

"As far as I know he was a Muslim for most of his life," Mr Jabbar said.

"What he did does not represent Islam. This is more some type of radicalisation, not religion."

According to Mr Jabbar, his brother had a six-year-old son and older daughters, The Times reported."

Despite what his brother said, it was his religion.

Well he was his brother and would have a greater knowledge of him

Perhaps as a Muslim the murderer didn't confide in his Christian brother who doesn't seem to have been aware of the link to ISIS.  If he had been aware if that, since there are none more faithful to their religion than Islamic terrorists, he wouldn't have said 'this is not religion' - because that's exactly what it is.

This is the muderer in his past life, selling himself as an estate agent and talking about his 10 years in the US military ...

Shamsud Din Jabbar, ancestors fought at The Alimo you know.

What on earth has his brother(or anyone else) got to do with this.  In almost all cases like this religious or not the perpetrator does not disclose it.

Tallk about deflection from the real problem.  And yes Sandy I know what you are trying to do here too.
