\\The guidance applies to those who have already arrived and any future arrivals, where previously refugees coming on small boats had to wait 10 years before being considered for citizenship.//

Will this discourage them from coming here.

I read that earlier Webbo. One line that caught my attention said illegal immigrants who have made dangerous journeys to get here blah, blah, blahh. My first though was the yuman rites, parasite, lawyers are busy right now preparing arguments to show that the journeys are not dangerous in that our navy and rescue services keep them safe and les grannouilles escort them to the rendevous points.

Agreed, but we could argue why are they fleeing france if its not dangerous.

no it won't discourage them...

I'll believe it when I see it. One thing for sure, the lawyers will make a packet. Is Cherie Blair still one of their number?

There is nothing the UK gov can do to stop this problem (it IS a problem) short of direct action to stop the boats in the channel and return them to France.

If they won't do that they may as well throw in the towel.

And what do they intend to do with them?  More hot air from this government.

So what, they still get hotels 3K and priority health care.  And then a house and benefits, I doubt they care about citizenship.

^^^ Exactly.

Once here they can disappear ino the ether and make enough money washing cars or delivering pizzas. They will receive free healthcare and they will definitely be far better off than remaining in a tent in Calais. Citizenship is not high on their list of requirments.

There should be no question of any asylum seekers ever receiving ciizenship. The idea of asylum is to provide temporary refuge (hence the term "refugees") from the perils they face. It is not to "start a new life" in a more agreeable country. If and when those perils no longer exist they should be returned.

Its been said that they are not worried about Citizenship, and they are not, so instead why not tell them that taxpayers are fed up with funding them, and the pot is empty, and that they will not receive any financial aid, and to hell with the European Court of Justice telling us different.

Thank you all, too many good answers to give a best answer.

In fact rather than risking the lives of immigrants/lifeboatmen/border farce at sea we might as well permanently charter a ferry & bring in as many as want to come. (Would also achieve KS objective of "smashing the gangs".)

Should already be the case.

Soft touch, UK governments.

Unlikely to dissuade them coming though. Certainly not on it's own. Crossing craft should be monitored, intercepted if suspicious, and returned back as appropriate. That'd be the most effective action, along with rooting out those already here illegally and returning them too.
