Can't understand how a guy who goes to the gym several days a week, eats sensibly, drinks alcohol occasionally, walks my dog Jay once every weekday and twice a day at weekends, suddenly doesn't come for the dog on Monday evening as usual and won't answer phone or texts etc.

I'd not seen him since he left my flat on Sunday evening and was concerned why he was not answering.

This afternoon I had two visitors who told me that J's playmate and walker had died in his office at work.  He was ony 41 years of age.  Nobody else in this block does anywhere near as much exercise and taking care of himself as he did.  Why him?

I'm not a relative, will I be able to see the post- mortem?

Keeping yourself fit & healthy improves your odds of lasting a long time, but it isn't the only factor. When your time is up, it's up.  Suffice to say we hope he finds himself in a better place and that he's happy to have returned "home".

That is sad, Ladybirder, but one often reads of perfectly fit sportsmen and others (even teenagers) who die suddenly of probably an undetected heart problem.  It must have been a shock to you and his family/friends. I don't know about the post-mortem. x

That's very sad, ladybirder. But sometimes it just happens. As hazlinny suggested, an undiagnosed problem. Would the two visitors who told you the sad news be told about the post mortem results?

We offten complain about getting old and not able to do the things we used to. Some folk dont get the chance.

Generally only the next of kin can get a copy of the post mortem report

Anyone can buy a copy of the death certificate as it is a public record.

Oh, that's very sad & shocking, LB. Like others have said, probably an underlying health problem. x

Thank you both.  True what you say.

My little Jay was sitting up on the sofa and facing the door waiting for him to come in at the usual time.  He's not a happy boy.

I need to find the parents who live about 300 miles away so I can send flowers to their son's funeral.  Not sure whether they will have the funeral where they live or here where he lived. They could have two funerals I suppose.

No to the pm report. There will probably be an inquest though which is public

Oops only two of you had posted when I started answering your questions.

Thank you Toorak.  Everyone in the building is so shocked.  Going to try and get some sleep now as got none last night.

Oh that's shocking LB...I know that you always spoke well of him. Unfortunately life is full of 'why's' like this. There is no answer.

I had a colleague at work like this. Most lunchtimes we were in the pub, he was in the gym.

Had salad for lunch whilst we stuffed our faces with McDonald's!! He had a heart attack at home. To say we were shocked was an understatement as he was in his 40's.

A sudden death is hard to deal with and my heart goes out to his family and friends. Life at times is not fair and one of the big things I have learnt over the past year is how fragile life can be. Love them and hug them as much as you can while you have the chance

I hope you manage to find another dog walker, LB. I'm not being unsympathetic, just realistic.

Vaccine??

I've known you long enough on here Tilly to know you wouldn't be like that.  Problem with j is he needs to know and like who's walking him.  Sometimes he just likes a play here which is what is happening shortly with a guy he knows from upstairs.  I will have to find someone who I will pay to get to know him before walks take place.  Won't be easy!!!

Sorry to hear about your dog walker. Have you thought about the website Borrow My Doggie to find a walker?
