OK in the news again and I don't want to start another thread about the cartoons etc. What I want to know is, If, as we are constantly being told, the majority of Islam is peaceful and moderate, why do they not expel the nutters from their religion? The trouble is the West see the inaction as tacit approval. There are occasional condemnations from moderate Islam but no positive action to put their own house in order.

For the same reason that the Catholic church does not expel paedophiles - even those who work within it!

The simple fact is, any religion cannot control the extremists who act ostensibly under its guidance and teaching - there are extremists in all faiths, and no one faith has the power to expel its wrongdoers, not that expulsion would ever stop them.

Thats fine saying religion cannot control extremisits, but what other religion in this world would you find other (so called religious) worshippers behead and murder others in the name of that religion. these clerics and so called holy men in power have to do more to combat the fanatics. Britain is a nation of multi culture and free speech but a line has to be drawn when placards are waved in protest inciting riots and terrorism. How can these fanatics bite the hand that feeds them? then hold their hands out for more!!!!!!!!

andy hughes is right, i am a muslim and i have been offended like the MAJORITY of muslims by the behaviour of a minority of rent -a-protest troublemakers -who have been condemened by all muslim leaders- these troublemakers have NOTHING in common with the religion i worship but i can understand the concern of the poster- but thats what the protesters want- division and segregation

I agree with andy-hughes, there's not much you can do. Islam is a peacful religion, (Salam means peace in arabic), i was offended by the pictures, but you aint going to find me bombing any embassies or carrying any hate placards, its wrong and quite stupid really. and like andy-hughes said, you can't kick someone out of the religion. Islam is not a membership type club, so you can't just "kick" people out if they go a bit wacky.
