liverpool fc have tried to sign chilean Mark Gonzales,Yet the goverment will not grant him a visa as chile not the top 70 fifa rankings.To be honest i find this a joke,I mean its not as if the guy is gonna come here and start bleeding the system dry is it....???.This guy is going to be paying atleast �5,000 a week in taxes and is going to be buying property here,But it seems to me that the goverment would rather get a boat load in and let them scrounge off the system. Just another example of whats wrong with this country

I think its more too do with protecting youth development in our own country, by limiting the ability to bring players of lesser ranked countries it would mean only the best of foreign ( non-eu ) players should come to the game so also giving our young-uns a chance.

Where did you get your figures on immigrants and the amount they cost the tax-payer in housing/employment benefits?

Just curious, because from what I see, they always seem to get the poorest paying jobs with the worst conditions.

sp1814 - You can see plenty of them in the coffee shop in the center of County Square in Ashford. Drinking 1 cup of coffee and smoking all day long....

Anyway, i think it's a general work permit thing that you need to have skills which UK workers don't or where there is a shortage of skills. People in the EU can more freely so thats why we have Polish Plumbers etc because they don't have to have work permits.

The other "scroungers" are asylum seekers who I understand are not allowed to work.

He will be allowed in this summer anyway as he will be allowed a Spanish passport then.

I remember a few years ago Liverpool had Brad Friedel (USA Goalkeeper) now at Blackburn and was subject to the same problems

yeah he is coming in the summer,But it really makes you laugh when an assylum seeker comes into the countrie gets everything under the sun in benifits with no intention of lifting a finger.when there is someone who is actualy going to be forking out for these people wants to come in and apply his trade.Yeah the goverment would rather have people living here are preaching hatred and god knows what else against this country and getting away with it.I can safely say i wouldnt like to bring up my kids when i have them in a country like this because one day this country isnt gonna be great britain no more its gonna be assylum britain

I think the DWP are just trying to encourage Liverpool (or any employer in the UK) to give that same job to a UK resident.

I'd much prefer it if they signed an English player of similar ability and he paid all those taxes.

Can I be boring and correct you? It's not the DWP it's the Home Office that's responsible for the issuing of Work Permits. Oh and there's no Britons who sponge off the State are there and every one of the Britons on Benefit is honest and never does a day's work without declaring it. There's billions lost in Benefit fraud every year so as it must all be down to these damned foreigners.....
