Is GOD on Tony Blairs side?
I just want to know what people think of what Tony Blair said on Parkinson. Roughly translated God told him to go to war. Do you think that he is right? Do you think that he has a massive ego? Do you think he should bring religion into this? Do you think he is unstoppable? Do you think he has created himself into a presidential figure? Do you think he has an inch of guilt in he's body?

I can't quote it exactly, but he said something like 'If you're a religious person you pray about these things to help make the decision, and you have to live with your conscience afterwards'.
That could mean anything..it could mean 'I prayed and asked god if it was ok, and god said no, but I went ahead with it anyway because I thought it was my duty'.
I could be wrong, perhaps someone will produce the exact quotation. I still think Blair's a n0b by the way.
Is it just me God's ignoring here, because he's never told me to do anything. When I was a lad I was a devout Roman Catholic, always at Mass and at confession and he still never said a damned word to me.
I have lived more since and with that life slipped my faith so I now find myself a sort of borderline atheist/agnostic but it scares the living hell out of me that the leader of a country, THIS country particularly, is hearing voices in his head and acting upon them. You expect it of the Americans but not here. I think the time has come for him to have the decency to admit the errors he has made, particularly about Iraq and then step down so that someone less mentally ill and less smug can take proper control over this country.I think he is stoppable at this point but certain bills presently going through parliament give us a very small window to get him out before he becomes nigh on omnipotent and since he has no conscience we need him out and we need him out now.
Tony Blair is our saviour - imagine where we'd be if William Hague, Ian Duncan Smith or Michael Howard had been leading us over the past decade. Tory party? The only thing they're good at is sleaze (real sleaze, week in week out for five years remember), sex scandal and criminally - economic incompetance.
God bless Tony. He's a hero for us all.
Of course getting your rocks off in a Chelsea shirt is definitely really sleazy!
Kathyan - but we had the same with Thatcher! The only difference between Our Tone and Lady M is that Margaret had a better hairstylist.
Steve - Labour sleaze is small scale when you compare the sleaze of the Tories - remember the dog days of the Major administration? Labour would have to work long and hard to reach that level of public mistrust. Also, we have the second strongest economy of any European country - manufacturing output has increased year on year for the past eight years.
Also, Tony was led astray by wicked, wicked people (probably all Tories) before the invasion of Iraq. He was entirely innocent, and no blame should be place on his shoulders.
Join me in praising Tony and everything he does.
I have just re - viewed the Parkinson show in question and the PM did not say God told him to go to war. What he said, inferred, meant or conjectured was that he mad the decision based on all that had been told to him and all the advice offered. Then he went away in silence to mull it all over in his mind and took the decision to go for it. He then said if that was the wrong decision then he will ultimately be answerable to the supreme court - and I mean the really supreme court - once his time on earth is over. As will we all for whatever we have done wrong even if we thought it correct at the time.
politicians are a reflection of society, some are slimebags and some are so genuine it is not true. The PM in my view has made some blunders but he tries hard!
I don't know if this was supposed to be a hilarious thread or what but you've all really made me giggle out loud. especially johnlambert - too true!
Personally, I think politicians have forgotten that they are supposed to be public servants. Sure its nice to know that they have a conscience which is what all this God referencing is all about, but ultimately they are responsible to the public. Us.
Plus what does all this God talk do but inflame the irrational belief by muslim fundamentalists that this whole war thing is between Us (Christians) versus Them (Muslims)?
Worrying in the extreme.
Quite a varied post on this subject eh?
It would be inapprpriate and unnecessary to post here the full transcript of Member of Parliament Enoch Powell's 1968 speech here in AB, but for those who are of the mind, might like to look at this link and make their own judgment on this man's thoughts of 38 years ago.
