This type of calculation is not always as straighforward as you might think. But if you click on http://www.ex.ac.uk/~RDavies/arian/current/howmuch
.html
you will be taken to a page that lists a number of websites with inflation calculators. One of these is the EH Net Calculator - http://www.eh.net/ehresources/howmuch/poundq.php - which says 200 in 1986 would be worth about 354 today.
A very rough'n'ready method is to work on the basis that prices double every nine years or so. A house worth 50,000 in 1984 would probably sell today for 200,000.
'This is Money' has all sorts of Money calculators - check it out here.......... http://www.thisismoney.com/undated/ff954.html
