Click here to read about a human tragedy that should make us all wonder about the sort of society we're living in.
How appalled are others that this can still happen in the 21st Century?

for gods sake you would have thought someone would have missed her.
This is so sad - surely a neighbour would have noticed something. One thing that puzzles me though - how was the heating and tv still on if she had been dead for 3 years? Surely the power would have been cut if no bills had been paid in that time?
That is so, so sad. She was very young x

three years switched on and the tv was still working... wonder what make it was...

I thought at least her sisters would have missed her,how sad that no-one cared enough to miss her!
yes, I hope the sisters won't be making noises of outrage and suing the council for failing her or anything: where were they when she needed them?
undercovers - harsh but true.
Poor lassie. Surprised the landlord hadn't been round. Can't keep the away normally.
More than 18 months ago a young lady was found dead near Peny Ghent, I think it said she was 23 years old.

This was on a path that hikers use, out in the country not where low lifes frequent and nobody has claimed her body

How can someone "LOSE" a 23 year old and not report it for 18 months?
As you said ianess this has become the society we live in today. You only have to look at the papers with the shocking news from around the country and the world today. At least we know from different post that not all of us are tarred with the same brush. A very sad story.

I once had to break into a house and find someone who had been dead for several months. I won't tell the story because people could find it upsetting, but I have the greatest admiration for those involved in this case (except the ones who hadn't missed her and the one who saw the flies & bugs but did nothing).

This is truly heart-breaking, the idea that someone can end their life under these circumstances, in this day and age. I just wonder how the other members of her family will sleep tonight, in fact, for the rest of their lives.

So sad.

Has anybody ever had the misfortune to smell a decomposing body? With the heating on, the smell would have been so over-bearing, I can only imagine what these flats must have been like and the quality of its inhabitants. Also the body is pretty much made up of soluable matter (even some of the skelton). Did it not seep into the shop below?

However, take away all the oh its so sad etc, am I wrong in thinking if you are on benefit you have to make a structured attempt to find work? So these spongers actually don't have to do anything???

Secondly, who monitors the heating bills? Surely there is a huge difference between winter and summer usage?

I knew that my liberal politics could even find fault with this tragic story. I blame the Welsh National Party.

Tragic case and even worse that she was eventually found by housing officers who came by to investigate missing rent etc.
How people/neighbors failed to notice the smell for 3 years is beyond me. But then again, this sort of thing seems to happen occasionally in the building, where another body was found in the lift having been there for weeks.

Hi.

Yes so many unanswered questions that I have also thought about.

1. Why was the smell not investaged.

2. What about the unpaid bills (heating, electric ect)

3. Did no family ring, or call in all that time. ??

4. What about the post that must have built up over the years.

5. Did the neighbours never wonder why the TV was on day and night and surely there must have been a light on for a good while.

V V sad, it does not seem possible that not one person noticed anything strange about the flat.

Yes I also hope there is not going to be a long lost Neice or whoever who jumps on the Council for neglect and sues them to high heaven for the distress of Auntie X suffering in this way.

Well If you read the BBC linked article it states she was on benefits. Have you read it?
I am truly amazed at this story, it seems an incredible length of time, Im amazed that fuel companies, landlords and tv licensing didn't chase her, but I am just amazed they know it was three years, it is indeed terrible that people should die in such circumstances
Ward-Minter my dead boy...she was dead! And thus she wasn't collecting her benefits / signing on SO the benefit office would and not pay them anymore! Don't worry the dead haven't started pinching your hard worked for taxes
i loved my little typing slip in the above post - i clearly meant DEAR boy, not dead boy :)
i blame the zombies

There was a woman found in the basement of her home - the last time someone had seen her was 3 yrs ago.She was found by burglars no less.In fairness - they didnt do an anon call from a phone box - they waited on the police. Its a sad reflection but the woman had had a breakdown after her marriage failed and her neighbours thought she had initially been hospitalised and then had moved.

Some people alienate themselves from society and shun any attempt at help with the results they become hermits and nasty with it.I personally feel that - yes on one hand its sad - but in the main we all look out for each other.I do with my old neighbours because I know their daily routine and if it deviates I chap their door and make an excuse why I'm there.
