To quote they have special designed technology in the sole with an off centre lacing to aid clean "strike zone"
Obviously has'nt go specially designed technology to prevent metatarsal injuries.
As much as I am not keen on him I must admit he is a fantastic player and the world cup, and england, will miss him if he has'nt recovered
I don't think the press represents the feeling of most England fans. With Rooney we had a chance, but most people I speak to think Brazil are by far the best team in it.
Our media is an embarassment, and border on the hysterical!
p.s Don't you think the people who answer questions in the news catergory are a bit touchy?
totally agree with mightyWBA about the media, I think they attribute to a lot of ill feeling on many subjects, why can't we have some positive news now and then? Good things must happen.... surely!?
But to the football, and yes, I think this is a 'news' subject. I don't like football .. not remotely interested. I'm a rugby girl, so I obviously have a 'taint' on the subject from the off. However, from my point of view, there is always some 'excuse' for england being ***** at football. One man, does not a world cup win ... I think Yoda said that. Personally (and again, not being in to football) I think that more 'english' players should play in the english premiership, maybe a quota of sorts, then me might get a squad that's strong enough not to be shaken by the absence of one player. Every 4 years there seems to be another excuse.
Mind you, I find the whole thing boring as hell and can't wait for it to be over... but that's just me ;o)
That is right ludwig you have to be in it to have a chance of winning it :-)
It is not so much that winning the World Cup rests on the fitness of one player as Dom Tuk suggests, it is the fact that 4 years of preperation is now turned on it's head with only 6 weeks to go. With both Rooney & Owen injured it is indeed a worrying time, both are match winners in their own right and both will of been pivotal within the preperations ....... But sh*t happens and I for one am still looking forward to the compition, even if England get knocked out in the fisrt round I will not knock them ............ unlike our Northern neighbours who seem to spend just as much time booing there own National side as they do ours :-)
I think it is quite ironic that you belittle the English for "excuses" bellasasha and then go on to show support for Italy who are renowned throughout the footballing world for blaming anyone and everything but themselves whenever they lose. Shall I remind you of 2002 when the Italians claimed match fixing and unfair bias from officials against them in a big conspiracy theory that involved everyone in the competition coming together to decide not to let them win the world cup after they had lost to S.Korea.......
The second point I would like to make is that yes, you need a great team to win a world cup but if you look at any side that has been succesful in the tournament they have at least one "special" player who can do things to turn and win matches. Going back you see Ronaldo/Rivaldo 2002, Zidane 1998, Romario 1994, Mattheus 1990, Maradona 1986, you can go back as far as Moore/Charlton 1966.
Rooney is Englands "special" player that is why the press are reporting on it as much as they are.
More column space is dedicated to prima donna footballers who need intensive care with broken toe nail than anything else.Get a grip on reality,Valentino Rossi has won motorcycle races in excess of 150mph on tight bends with a broken ankle and wrist! We need a good excuse for loosing the world cup anyway!!
bellasasha, you didn't hit a raw english nerve at all, I don't think we will win the world cup even if Rooney was playing. We have a great chance but don't think we'll do it.
You seemed to have missed the point I was making and the reference to 1966 was nothing patriotic, if you read my post properly you will see that. I just couldn't be bothered to write down all the individual greats that have helped win the world cup in between those times.
Next time read the post thoroughly before having a go at me.
Then if you read it properly you will take the mention of 66 in its proper context and not one of "harping back to 1966 all the time"
The point is about going all the way back through the history of the world cup and seeing that consistently over time ther have been one or two players in each tournament that make a good team great!
look gevs, we are all allowed our own opinions....there is no need to be so touchy!!!
as i said before, if you read my post properly, i did read your post, i know what you were referring to when you mentioned 1966, just thought i would say what the rest of the world is thinking!
this is a place for people to post their own opinions and thats what i was doing.
