I was watching the news this morning and saw that the oldest living person alive is celebrating her 128th birthday. I hope I live to be in my 80's never mind older, would you like to live that long 128?

Then I was telling a colleague at work and she said her greatgranny would be celebrating her 101st birthday this year and she had told her a story the previous week that she knew someone who died on the Titanic. Amazed!!!!

It would be ok i think as long as you have all your faculties (if thats how you spell it, lol) My mom works in an old peoples home and was telling me today in fact that one of the ladies in there is 99 next week and for the last 18 months has been slowly losing her mind. She tries to escape, throws her walking frame at people she has known and loved for a long time. I know shes no longer aware of what shes doing perhaps but I wouldnt like to get to that stage.

No neither would I, I only caught the news at a glimpse, so couldn't tell you if the women was compas mentis, but she looked great, not a day over 80 i'd say!!!
Are you sure they're "celebrating" it? Probably non compus mentis.
My dad is 89 this year mum is 82 in august but I am 50 I have severe arthritis and dread living as long as them, they are pretty fit I am not .. not feeling too good about longevity!

Oh by the way dad is compus mentis mum nearly there just a bit puzzled and confused sometimes.

Glad to hear it. All the best to your mam and dad.

How about the woman of 104 who has just married a man of 33? I am over 40 years younger but have done things recently that would daunt many people half my age. The best age is the one you have just reached. Good luck to the woman of 128.

Grunty - you not serious are you?? 104 and 33??
Question Author

I wonder what she wanted for a present, I can't imagine there is anything she needs now. My nanna started losing her mind in her 60's so I wouldn't want to be like that at any age. Also I would like to know if Grunty is serious?

It would be a nice achievement to be 128, but I'd hate to be the worlds oldest, with everyone waiting for you to die or wondering about it. Id be happy with being just over the 100 mark, and with my mind intact, but my mum worked in the elderly EMI home and it looks as though they dont even know their minds have gone, so as awful as it is to see, it might not be that bad to have it...

104 & 33 ...wow, maybe I watch miss marple now in a different light.
As long as I could come to terms with losing family members and be compusmentis over a 100 at least but I doubt as I am diabetic with h b p I will so I live everyday to the best I can
