I did Google it (because you said not to). I can honestly say that I knew nothing of it until you asked the question. Never even heard of it.

It prompts two questions:

a)Should I be familiar with it?

b)If so, why?

No sax...most people are not familiar with it, i wasnt until recently, but it is an illustration of how far israel will go to get its own even if it means shafting the USA and UK. The protagonists of the episode were shimone perez and some other but the details are mind boggling. It happened in the 50s though....but perez was leader recently. It caused the downfall of a government in israel so it must have been very very serious during its time.

Good link, that, I'd never heard of it. Israel and the UK had got together again enough to plot the Suez crisis in 1956, another disgraceful affair which damaged the reputation of the British government of the day much as Iraq is doing to Blair. On that occasion, the USA (led by a former soldier, Eisenhower, rather than a draft-dodger like Bush) had the sense to stay out of it.

JNO i will brush up on the Suez affair now. The USA did the right thing then especially as they were friendly with Sadat and the Egyptians. I would like to know what changed especially after Lavon which made the US so in Israels pocket. Did the jewish lobby then take hold in USA?

yes, haven't you found it odd everytime a peace agreement is on the verge of being tangible a suicide bomber turns up and takes out a bus or a restaurant, usually in a predominately arab jewish neighbourhood thereby killing any chance of peace and cancelling any agreements on land. good link, i will give a good read later, have actually heard of it, didn't recognize it by name. they do have a sordid past alright . the botched poisoning attempt by netanyahu is another good one, he was elected as well. and then there's sharon's infamous unit 101.
