is it racist to disagree on immigration

that was a email debate on sky news today,what are your feeelings about this.

I see immigration as a good and bad thing. good if it brings more skills and better culural influence to the country. Bad if it brings a load of free-loaders who have no interest in the progression of the UK.

As it stands we have both of the the above, and if that view is racist well then I shout it from the rooftops, 'I'M A RACIST'

As a side issue is it just me, or do the chinese pretty much get left alone when it comes to racism? They never complain, never strive to push their own political or religious views and are generally very well respected in the UK by everyone.

I have no problem with immigration, so long as its legal, there's no doubt that the skills immigrants bring in have been for the good of this country,

Problem is, with no border control, (illegals), too many, too fast are coming in, and putting an immense strain on the services this country has to offer.

Firstly a few years ago everyone associated racism with people who were not the same colour as the whites. However since the advent of the collapse of the iron curtain alot of people, legal or otherwise, are white and not only do some bring over much needed expertise but you also have to deal with the East European Mafia. Consequently the type of people that are now being classified as "undesirables" has broadened considerably.
As for freeloaders I think that some of the worse are a particular type of traveller who causes havoc where ever they go thereby giving their group of people a bad name.

But the long and short of it is that geographically UK cannot continue to support the vast numbers of people attempting to settle in this country, and sooner or later restrictions will have to be placed on people coming here.
What the Government cannot see is that because of PC and other things, they are turning alot of what was moderate thinking people into racists of one form or another and this will only cause problems in the long term.
Emigration to countries like Australia is now heavily controlled although they are relaxing the laws somewhat do to certain skill shortages. However even they are worried about the amount of people wanting to settle in their country.

I've seen posts here where people refer to the UK as 'our country'.

But you've just referred to Australians worried about the number of people wanting to settle in 'their' country...are you referring to Aborigines? Because if we were to apply the same principles of ownership, Aborigines should have the veto on immigration, and not the European settlers...

This is a general point by the way, I'm not having a pop at you.

It is not intrinsically racist to disagree with immigration but a regretably large number of people who do disagree with it appear to have come to their conclusion on the basis of hysterical racist opinions that are largely unrelated to the facts of the matter.

I agree with Waldo's point. It's difficult to have a grown up discussion about immigration without descending into playground levels of racism.

It's absurd to label someone who diagrees with immigration as racist. I think there is a 'critical mass' that when reached will spark civil unrest and for that reason, the flow of immigrants should be drastically reigned-in. I also think the 'R' word gets bandied about far too much.

Hi sp1814. You have raised an interesting point. I actually meant the white Australians, however alot of them tend to look down on the Aboriginese in the same way that alot of white Americans looked down on the native american.
No what I meant was that the white australian is very much against people who settle in their country especially from the Far East.
I remember playing the Australian version of Trvial Pursuit and questions were always popping up reference emigration. These were mainly to do with quotes from a female MP and were down right racist.
I bet Normanthedog did'nt realise what was going to happen today when he posted his question
