MP3.com will pay Seagram's Universal Music Group $53.4m to close a copyright infringement case, ending the Internet music company''s clash with the record industry. The penalty is thought to be the largest statutory infringement award in US history. Universal also secured the rights to buy just under 5 per cent of the company for $250,000.
