Just wanted to ask everyone, which political party do you support? Where do you stand politically? (eg to the left, right, centre, left of centre etc) and why? Has your political stance changed as you have got older or remained the same?

Right, and I feel as this country gets worse everyone will become more so
"The man who is not a socialist at twenty has no heart, but if he is still a socialist at forty he has no head."
-- Aristide Briand (1862-1932)
Centre left.

As I've got older, I've got less and less 'lefty'.

I'm more 'Independent reader' than 'Guardian reader' if that makes any sense.

I lean toward the Green Party, which seems to be the one party which is actually interested in making life better for people. As admarlow says, politics in general is becoming more and more right-wing - s/he presumably thinks this is some sort of solution, but I see it as a vicious circle: the worse things get, the more right-wing people become, the worse things get, et cetera. The Greens are the one party that actually seems to want to break that cycle.
Well I find it difficult to place myself in the one dimensional model, most would probably say I'm right wing and I think in some areas I'd go along with that but in other areas I'm probably hard line socialist. Try this 2d model, read the explanation first and then do the test. Interestingly Hitler doesn't come out extreme right but does come out as very authoritarian. Give it a go:

Interesting site Loosehead. I took the test an got:

Economic Left/Right: -6.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.74

Which didn't surprise me much (makes me more left and more libertarian than Ghandi)
Smashin' site there Fingerprint, thanx.
....... and woder y'no ?!, I was just about bulls eye along with Nelson Mandella !
I thaught I'd become a bit less quixotic in later years, makes me wonder a bit. Thanks again.
I was always a hard line leftie and I do believe in the fundamental principles of socialism, but sadly the "new" labour party are now slightly right of Margaret Thatcher, to such a degree that I'm horrified to say there is a good chance at the next election I might for the first time ever vote Tory because they are more left wing! I cannot believe that we have been so betrayed in our common freedoms by the Labour party with their ideas of ID cards and now sanctions against young single parents.I believe in his interview tonight , the nation witnessed the descent of Tony Blair into utter insanity, as he attempts to interfere in the most sacrosanct of freedoms, the choice to parent our children individually. So I'm going to be a Tory voting communist! So there!

Loony lefty liberal bourgeois social democratic Maoist progressive patriotic monarchist extreme moderate with subliminal Stalinist tendencies.
Welcome on borad Noxy! How can you reconcile your general go getting attidtude with being a socialist? Surely it's now widely accepted that socialism is a flawed ideology that to work requires that human nature be altered.
Can someone tell me what the left and right mean and how you know which you are one, by that i mean what opinions do you need to be categorised? I have reached the age i am and I have never known and never bothered to find out where I stand.
Economic Left/Right: -2.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.56

I, too, am moving much more to the right as I get older.
I did this quizz and one question about protection I didn't get quite but my results are:
Economic Left/Right: -5.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.23
whatever that means
how do you know if you are moving? have you done this quizz before?
No, dot. But I know how I would have answered a lot of those questions a few years ago, and my answers would have been much more liberal than they are now. I wonder if it's a sign of maturity or just me being so jaded with the world!
Depends which way the wind is blowing, today its from the south as Im facing west Im leaning to the right tomorrow I might face north but the wind could have changed direction.
Economic Left/Right: -3.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.33

I'm a Lefty Liberal.
