Smoking Ban in England

When the smoking ban is introduced to England, how are nightclubs planning to deal with the group of people who will have to go outside to smoke if there is no patio/garden/balcony type area?

I come from Manchester where there are lots of the old fashioned basement style nightclubs which don't have a realistic place to stand outside as the pavement is usually taken up by the queue to get in. Also I can see the door re-entry policy after a cig will become a nightmare.

I've not been up to Scotland recently so am interested to hear how they've handled this problem?

I suppose each club is going to have to come up with something that works for them. They'll probably issue some sort of reentry token and then it's up to the smoker where they go for a smoke.
Or a stamp on the back of your hand?

Then I bet the trick will be to see if you can go all week without washing off thereby getting in the club for free the following Saturday- lol.
If they stamped on my hand, Id kick the sh!t out of them back

Hey Boo, you've just given me a great idea... I might start selling copies of nightclub stamps on ebay - I could earn a fortune! lol
Hi, as you said. Scotland have already got our ban in place, and although everybody complained at first, it works really well, the only downside is that you have groups of smokers on the pavement outside the pubs and clubs which could be intimadating to passers by.
The nightclubs i believe make provision for smokers, they would need to or the would end up out of buisness. Workplaces too, they have adated well.
My daughter tells me that since they stopped smokers in the nightclubs you now notice the smell of sweaty bodies and fart lol.
K/ (Still smoking)
I thought Pubs and Clubs could allow smoking provided they are not serving food?
Think the law in Scotland has already been introduced alist. Blanket ban on smoking in all enclosed public places.

Not due to be brought in until "Summer 2007" in England (and I assume Wales and NI?)... same deal, no exceptions.
That was an early idea bigal1st , it's going to be a total ban now.
Yep, I was out in Glasgow last night. Clubs that don't have an outdoor area (evencarparks and loading bays have canopies at the moment) give out wristbands (or, bizarrely, playing cards...) so you can get back in, and they usually pen off a bit of the pavement in front of the club.

I can really see the ban working, there are definately far less smokers now, most people can't be bothered going out for a fag especially when it's raining. But it's really weird waking up after a night out not stinking of smoke. Good obviously, but weird!
Hi Loosehead, Did'nt realise they changed it. Sorry Rgds Al
Over here in Spain , clubs and nightclubs and discos are exempt from the smoking ban, they also stamp the back of hands - it's quite the thing to have, a Pacha or Space stamp!!!
