Another pointless knee-jerk. How is taxing knives going to stop anyone using one if they so intend?
Maybe it will remove hunting knifes from the market but we all need and use knives every day. No kitchen could operate without a selection of large knives, all of which could kill if used for more than the bacon rind or Sunday roast. They can't tax every single knife - and anyone so inclined to mischief can just nick one from their granny's kitchen!
The real problem is not the knives at all - it is the people using them for other than their intended purpose. What if someone uses a hammer as a weapon - are they going to tax hammers out of existence? There seems to be no recognition or attempt to tackle the hows and whys of this increasingly violent society. You don't sort that out with more tax Mr. Blair!
