As has been mentioned, smiffy this is a health & safety issue rather than a religious one ~ and health & safety has been going great guns in the last couple of years due to the compensation culture we seem to be living in.

With regards to displaying flags, this seems to be (yet again) a local council issue and nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that it upsets Muslims ~ after all there are many many muslims who were born & raised in this country & continue to do so, therefore our flag is also their flag.

I do know that a local pub round these parts were told off for displaying the flag of St George (not the Union flag..that is acceptable, apparently) as there are many living in England or are not English ~ we have quite a large Scottish population in these parts and the council were wary of English/Scottish flare ups. Not that a flag is gonna make it worse, eh? ;o)
Cross posted with you there, Rev Sermon!

I agree with you, especially regarding construction. Mr Pippa is in the same industry and some of the rules & regulations drive him nuts..so much so that he is seriously considering getting out of the building game.

In his words ''it was all so much easier 25 years ago''
Kev forget about this country becoming an Islamic state ,the backlash is coming
I have got more important things happening in my life than worrying about who wears what and why.

Fender62,

Probably No, as I answered earlier:

"BA is developing a Muslim uniform for its staff. "Two ground staff at Heathrow wanted to pursue their religion and we would support that," said BA. The "modesty" uniform will be introduced in a few months.

So expect more of this nonsense then.

Meanwhile, here is a good Daily Telegraph article on the subject.

Question Author
omg why is BA introducing a new uniform for muslims,if they want the job at BA then everyone should wear the same uniform, as the saying goes "when in Rome"
BA fly all over the place...not just to Rome ;o)

good one pippa
NH back- now with 50% more leftist havoc...

It now seems that this story is complete ********. (sigh). Nonetheless I have to say that there are probably no muslims whatsoever who get offended by any of this...there's probably more offence caused when councils/companies actually try not to cause offence.
Well said, NH!
Question Author
NH thank you at last somebody has understood my question and answered to my way of thinking

sine die
If Chris is so anti Christian, perhaps he should consider changing his CHRIStian, oh! sorry, Fore-name.
Question Author
I'll go with that
Question Author
just to finish can I ask chris a question, why if you are an athiest does any religious symbols offend you when you dont believe in them anyway, it just sounds as if you are a very bitter man, this is a free and christian country where we all want to live together in peace and harmony if the powers that be, or human rights protesters would let us. that includes atheists and any other religions' you and we are entitled to uphold our own beliefs without any form of violence.if this were to be everyone would be happy
Why don't all you Christians in this "free and Christian land" uphold your beliefs by going to church for a change?

1979 12%
1989 10%
1998 7.5%
2006 6.3% and falling like a rock!

Christianity isn't offensive, it's irrelevant
Jake,
i am one of the 6.3% you mentioned, and I am far from irrelevant.
Question Author
because we do have a freedom of choice, myself I go to church when I feel the need to,and not to be told to
Oh I see smiffy!

Are you one of the 70% of those who described themselves as Christian who then said they didn't believe in God?

Is that what they call CofE?
Question Author
I certainly do believe in god,and I am not CoE,
