why do mechanical devices (cars, boilers, ships, gravity, the underground system) break down whenever my mother in law touches them?

i imagine the burden of repairing them falls on you, this must mean she has developed this ability purely to spite you, and she would not be the first mother in law to do this. she is not going to be much different physiologically from other humans, her ability is all down to her motivation :-D
