Last Friday(Nov21) an Iranian national hijacked a petrol tanker with 35000 Ltrs of fuel aboard from a petrol station in Northampton. He got as far as 400mtrs down the road before the clutch and breaks burnt out,(he didn't know about the autolock),.He abandoned the vehicle and ran off over the fields, the Police helicopter tracked him and he was caught. Great you might think, but apart from a short newsflash on Northampton local radio, that was it. Nothing else, why the cover up?

I would guess the police would have checked him out and just found he was nicking it for some other reason. I think in the current climate and news of a folied terrorits attack would be viewed as good propreganda i.e. we can keep you safe. And as much as I'm sure Northampton is a nice and important place, vehicle theft is hardly headline news.
Cannot confirm or deny whether such an incident took place, but a word on D-Notices (or DA-Notices as they are now known). These are issued as guidance to the media where information may threaten national security. There are five standing A-Notices (i.e. Military Operations; Nuclear and non-Nuclear Weapons; Home Addresses etc). They are not issued in relation to individual stories. In other words - nothing has been "issued too the press" in relation to this story, whether or not the incident actually happened.

e/3227966.stm There are so many road closure incidents across the country that it probably didn't merit a 'front page splash'. Now, if the petrol caught fire, that's another story......
