It all came to an end after the Cold War ended, the thinking then, was that if any of our troops were captured, and the present crisis is a case in point, the captors would probably be terrorists, and wouldn't observe any rules, so now they are told to co-operate, and short of giving secrets away, to do and say anthing they are told to, to save themselves.
There are many of us not having acces to spouting on T.V. So what? Got a brain haven't you?: just be glad you wern't born a bloomin slave to the mulhas of the eastern persuasion, you know , them who believe in one whole load of crap about bringing about a world where every one is subdued to their beliefs or else > . I was once a roman catholic, been there., done that. Now let them sailors free or face the consequences! you dumboes. Yea, come on you regular contributers, what ever your names are, tell me I'm wrong, show me another way of looking at it. (I'll probably be sober by then but I'll still be right and you'll be sad sad sad) P.S. Tell me I was just a bit wrong here or there. I'd love to know!
If you were a prisoner of such a country, you would write letters and talk on television if they told you to.
The Geneva Conventions were OK when we knew when we were at war. One country would declare war on another and they would fight until one was conquered or surrendered. Now, America has taught the world that you can just invade at will (50 countries since 1945).

Keep in mind, Grunty, that the British perfected the "invade at will" concept. Years ago, if you looked at a map of the world, a large portion of it was coloured pink (The Empire). I doubt that the inhabitants of these countries had knocked on the Home Office door and asked: "May we please be part of your Empire?"!
Thank you all, for your answers. I agree that my thinking may be wrong, but I always believed that any one who is libel to shoot me is an enemy (Americans being an exception). But being old, my thoughts are different, and may be a little tainted.
As for dyli795, I would probably agree with you, if I knew what you were on about. I also was a Roman Catholic, choirboy, and served at the alter, at the Bromton Oratory, I was also bombed out, being dug out a couple of times.
That aside, you have given me the impression of a larger lout, your gibberish is not required, try being civil for a while.
