Don't know whether this should go in 'News' or 'Television' so I'm posting in both threads.

I saw the end of a news story on GMTV this morning where it was reported that Simon Cowell had to apologise to a contestant on American Idol, saying that he didn't mean to offend people affected by a certain tragedy.

I couldn't hear what was being said (it was a subtitled news stream on a video screen at the gym) but I'd like to know what the story was all about.

The contestant dedicated his audition to those killed in the Virginia shootings. Simon rolled his eyes when he/she said this

Cheers....The BBC has just posted the story on it's website.
To be fair to Cowell (never thought I'd ever say that about the Antichrist) it's quite a crass thing to do.
Don't think he actually dedicated his song to the victims of the shooting, when Cowell accused him of singing nasally (!) the contestant said that he was thinking about the vctims as he has friends at VT, Cowel had already started to talk to Paula Abdul at this point and I don't think he really picked up on what was being said....when he was told he apologised
No story then.
i expect his instinct was to think it was yet another attempt to gain favour by a contestant - a number of them have done this in the past - he probably reacted before he realised what it was all about
From what I can understand, he was reacting to something his colleague said - not to what the singer said.
