The world would be a better place without *any* religion IMO, but any suggestion that such a situation could ever be achieved by violence is naive, idiotic, immoral and, most importantly of all, doomed to failure, as even a superficial understanding of history would tell you.
Anyway, I was saying Loosehead made no sense, not Minter.

I agree waldo, not sure where anyone said the contary.
No, *that* was to Minter, not you.

But what you're saying about Abu Hamza... when he started to be a regular fixture at Finsbury Park, there was a big exodus of the moderate muslims. They voted with their feet - this is a matter of record.

Were there still people there? Yes, of course, but neither is it as simple as you appear to want it to be.
I have three copper mates and over a pint last Thursday, I asked them about current anti-terrorism legislation (oh it was a fun night) and they told me the reason why...

Apparently, in terms of gathering evidence of who is associating with whom, there's more value in letting some of these clerics carry on and establishing where possible connections are.

Also, the law which relates to the incitement to religious hatred and murder is notoriously tricky to prosecute. It's much easier to prosecute under the Race Relations Act (black vzs white and vice versa) because the religious hatred bill was quite badly thought out and implemented.

That's all I remembered, because after that we got into a conversation as to who's better - Kylie or Dannii.
i seem to remember he preacher outside the mosque in finsbury simply because he had been expelled from using the building hadn't he?

Question Author
yes iggy, why didn't they expell him full stop? And why was he allowed to obstruct the highway? Imagine how far I'd get if I started preaching anti Islam propaganda in Bournemouth Square.

sp: Kylie no contest!
he was expelled from the venue - the muslim faith is not organised like catholicism etc so he could not be expelled any more than being refused access to the building
They'll be no one to rival Blair in his statements. 'Putting aside the Iraq and Afghanistan wars we encourage all Muslims to live together with us in peace' But it was these wars that caused all the internal troubles since. He is a serial denyer for getting us involved in these wars and now fails to understand why we are a target for islamic extremists. Hurry up and go!
Religion is the biggest killer in the history of mankind. It causes untold grief as people will always use it as a tool for carrying out their beliefs. The government needs to stop bowing down to certain faiths, and start clearing up all these madmen who turn innocent muslims into radical nutters. If you take away the problem at source, it will disappear more quickly.

To be honest I had always though man was the biggest killer of men women and children, and that religion was just a vehicle/justification for their actions. However if it is religion how does this get eradicated? In the USSR, religion was banned but that didn't seem to stop people believing, in fact it seems that when people are persecuted religion thrives. History has indicated religion is very difficult to eliminate , Nazi's and Jews and in our very own country Catholics and Protestants killing each other without having any success in preventing people from believing.
How do you plan this, do you not think killing all religious people might be a step to far, or would it only by zealots and those with fundamentalist scummy views you would take out and if so how do you tell?
If somebody who calls themselves a Christian goes around calling for the same level of violence that muslims call for, they could be challenged as they obviously would not be acting in a Christian manner.
Muslims on the other hand, really can call for extremes of violence, and against us, and can cite their koran to justify it.
The so called moderate muslim is not called an apostate or heretic by his more violent brother for nothing.
Brigitte Gabriels "American Congress For Truth" has much to say about this. Her story is quite amazing.

There's an awful lot being laid at the door of Muslims at the moment.

Tell you what - why not have a word with the Muslim fella who runs your local sweetshop. Bet he's as moderate as you.

To taint Muslims in general with the the same brush as the Muslim extremists is as logical as accusing all Catholic priests of being paedo, just because some of them patently are.

sp1814 - My contention is that our daily news from all over the world, about muslim atrocities in the name of islam, reveals a situation that we in the UK are not immune from.
Hysteria, no. Facing facts, yes.
I must agree that my local muslim shopkeeeper is a model citizen, and I would be the first to protest against any infringements of his human rights. That is not the issue, as my local muslim shopkeeper was not protected by police whilst he joined protesters in Trafalgar Square, calling for more British deaths because of the Mohammed cartoons!
Yes, it's all about facing facts and not burying our heads in the sand. The link I gave is valid.
Ruby27, i am not on about eradicating these people. I mean we should stop these people turning good people into terrorist morons. If we had more stringent checks on these people getting into these meetings where they preach their hatred then we could stop it at source.
Just read someone inciting " death to Islam" wow, reminds me of those stupid narrow-minded people in mobs burning American flags on the telly crying "death to America".... loonies exist in every society, I suppose.
theland, you can't be serious? do you know who these people are and who they represent? propaganda at it's finest. http://www.americancongressfortruth.com/about- act.asp

initially I thought they are just having a laugh like some of the posters here trying to see how far they can wind people up with their overt bigotry and racism. Sort of Ricky Gervais and the Office. First time I watched it I fell for it and thought what a dreadful place of work that is. Gradually I thought duh, its sartirical its humor.
But, now I am not so sure, its more scary now people there and here do actually believe what they are claiming. Have to go away and re think my strategies as this isn't light hearted debate but seriously worrying.
Loosehead and Joe you are spot on. Its an absolute blo*dy disgrace. If our government have a spare million quid (and the rest) why the hell aren't they giving it to Great Ormond Street Hospital or Childline -both organisations having to advertise on tv for charitable donations makes me utterly ashamed to be British.
