Why in 2007, when there are so, so many contraceptions at hand, has there been an increase of 140k abortions since 2005?
The Pill, the coil, condom, femidom, depro provera injection (lasts 6mths-1yr) the cap, the 'morning after pill.' ...to name but a few. Also, we have the biological knowledge of ovulation, so even if we 'must' have unprotected sex, at least it can be timed. (Dodgy way to do it, I know)
It would seem that knowledge is just as effective as ignorance. What do you AB'ers think?

So much sex nowadays is not planned at all otherwise people would use contraception. Its all about instant gratification and it is also too easy to get the morning after pill, or an abortion. The whole idea of abortion was to prevent mothers seeking back street operations but what has occured is women ask for an abortion and are never refused. In other words, contraception on demand albeit after the event.
I am curious as to when sex was planned in your opinion. I have been sexually active for the last 33 years and it is only in the last 10 years I have had to plan it - sometimes with military precision so that neither my partner or I are to tired, to busy, to just something else. Previously I was anticipating with some justification sex was going to happen, planning not necessary.
Flippancy aside I think it is desperately sad that some couples didn't have the foresight to ensure unwanted pregnancies don't occur, often relyinig on the most unreliable methods. I remember partners assuring me that they would withdraw in time to prevent ejacuation, with the unsaid subtext was thier affection (sic) woudl be withdrawn if I didn' t go along.
I would be interested to know the age of most women who have terminations, and whether this is because they are young and feel infallible (sigh what it was to feel like that). In addition it may be a very small number but how many pregnancies occur when contraception was used but not effective?
Termination as a form of contraception has a terrible repercussion on the women.

What astounds me is the amount of single mothers with several children with different fathers. Everyone can made one mistake, but surely one should learn by it. Too easy to get houses and money. No one has to think of the consequences these days cos there aren't any.
Sorry to hijack this but...

Does anyone actually use femidoms?
Because we are becoming a nation of illiterate chavs.

I went out with a woman last year 44, 4 kids by three different fathers and had 7 grandkids. Of the 7 grandkids six had different fathers. Only one of her kids worked, the rest smoked draw all day.

Not that I am one to preach about how anyone should live their lives but in the example shown above there is a pattern forming. Do as your parents do i.e. just keep banging the kids out.
Tried but they were uncomfortable so went back to using condoms. I was dissapointed

Neilzulu - those who have children have obviously made the choice to have children - whats that got to do with a post on abortion?
Are people actually having more sex now and more unplanned pregnancies? I don't actually think so, I just think more women are exercising their right to not be pregnant.

I have had an abortion in what most people would seem to be unlikely circumstances. I was in a proper longterm relationship but was on the minipill and breastfeeding at the time (which is supposedly a natural contraceptive, to the point that when I told my doctor he wouldn't believe that I was pregnant). I know I couldn't have coped with another child. You are supposedly only allowed 3 abortions but that doesnt work out in practise.
