Proud to be British?
23 Answers
There have been various posts on here with regards human rights and whether people terrorist suspects should be locked up without trial (like Guantanomo Bay)
I was just doing a bit of research and found this quote: "The power of the executive to cast a man in prison without formulating any charge known to the law and particularly to deny him the judgement of his peers is in the highest degree odious and is the foundation of all totalitarian government...." Would anyone care to guess as to who wrote this and when? It was Winston Churchill in 1943. Have we turned into a country that would make Churchill turn in his grave?

Its only in the last 20 years that this islamic threat has been such an issue.
Before that time, any preeching of hate towards a country or its citizens, would not be tolerated.
The title should be Proud to be English? To which the answer would be yes, and i will not let anyone brainwash me into thinking that we should all live as muslims, and i am sure many millions more people think like me...

No, during Churchills years, particularly 39-45 were their German Suicide bombers???
Were we being poisioned by an evil and demonic religion??
There is no smoke without fire. If 5 muslims are locked up by mistake, yet a thousand are guilty, I do not have a problem with that.
If you are a "suspected" terrorist, I can 100 percent guarantee you must have been up to some mischief.
Lock 'em all up and I have complete faith in the law to sort the chaff from the wheat.
Further, if there do happen to be any person locked up by mistake, they would probably have a better few weeks than they would at home. A clean house, no face-covered wife, decent food and a clean toilet. Many of these muslims live in filth, so a short prison sentance will do them good. May even teach them some manners.

were there suicide bombers?..demonic religion
Are you seriously trying to tell us that this country is under greater threat now than in 1940?
How many terrorist related deaths have there been in the last year? - How many did the Luftwaffe kill?
Personally I think comparing today with 1940 is pretty insulting to those who lived through the war.
I doubt you'll be spending tonight huddled in a tube station shadow man

No peg leg, we were at war!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are not at war with the home grown terrorists living as our neighbors are we?? Bloody well should be, but we are not!!!!
And I don't think a tube station is as safe as it was in war-torn London!!!!!!!!!!!! A silly statement now you think about it, methinks. I'll let you off though.

No you're not going to bluster your way off the hook.
We are not at war, this is not the end of civilisation as we know it. We have a few extremists who think they can panic everyone into running around like headless chickens.
I'm sorry if they frighten you but you need to develop some guts and stop running making ridiculous comparisoms.
There is no invasion army just across the channel and despite what you may be reading in the Mail we will not all be speaking Islamic this time next year.
Get a grip

Your right jake, there is no invasion army, there is a silent army.
One more deadly than any attacking force. At least we knew who are enimies were back in the second world war. There are only a few ways to deal with suicide bombers.
Let them have their religion, but let them not force it onto us and demand we change our ways of life.
Its a shame we dont have a strong leader who represents our country and its values.
My time of power will come...

That ever present 'them' again... Although I have just figured out what 'Them' actually are, I knew I'd remember! Giant Ants! (Apologies to all heads that will go over but it made me chuckle so tough).
Our leader must represent the country and it's values as most of the country voted for him. (And before I get shot down I would just like to point out that most of the country voted for a labour goverment and they chose the PM. Whether you think it was the right choice or not is another topic).
No one is demanding that we change our lives but there are a few extremists running around scaring the bejesus out of those with more fear than sense.
No one is forcing a religion on you. This is a common knee jerk reaction to the fear that happens when you don't use your sense.
I'm proud to be from this country. I don't always like our policies, I sure as hell don't like some of the opinions of some of the people in this country and a lot of the national/media press want shooting but at least I live in a country where I can disagree with the policies, debate (and even socialise and be friends) with those of different political leanings and have a press/media who are not silenced.
We could have it a lot worse and frankly it wouldn't do some people any harm to realise just how lucky we have it in this country. It's not perfect but it is home.

sp1814, they have not all been released without charge, the doctor at my local hospital has been charged with being part of the Glasgow terrorist attack. how many muslems have you heard condeming the people that carry out these attacks, during the war at least you knew who the enemy was, unlike now ,the enemy is someone who this country has given a home, benifits, and freedom of speech, most of them hate us, and wont be satisfied until they have complete control over us, the way this country is pampering to their every whim , it wont be that long. what Churchill said sixty years ago does not relate to the evil that is threatening our country now,
"how many muslims have you heard condeming the people that carry out these attacks"
Have you even spoken to any muslims about the issue? Where did you expect to hear the condemnation from?
Maybe all the muslims in Britain should take to the streets to condemn the attacks and apologise for their brethren. But that would expose their silent army, wouldn't it? Why don't we make all muslims wear a symbol on their clothes for identification purposes? We'll spot that army a mile off.
Shadow Man - I am deeply disturbed by your extreme prejudice against muslims, but it's clear that you're quite incorrigible. Once you get sick of spewing your hate filled bile, you might want to get in touch with the real world - it's nothing like what the Daily Mail would have you believe.
And many congratulations on discovering the exclamation mark.
