In a right wing think tank publication today, it has been suggested that anybody who has been diagnosed with AIDS or HIV should have their penis or vulva tattooed by law.

It is argued that it is spread far more by sex than by IV heroin users. Further the only people who would see the tattoo would be doctors (who would know anyway) and sexual partners.

A tattoo on the old John Thomas would therefore make the partner decide against sex OR insist that suitable protection is worn, ie a French Letter.

I have searched my liberal mind and decided this is a fine idea.

For all the social workers on here, how would you feel if your son or daughter were engaging in unprotected sex with an AIDS infected partner?

The resaon this has been proposed is because there is a growing population of sufferers who are locked in some "denial" stage and acting as if nothing is wrong. A forced tattoo may eliminate this and those who have accepted the condition have nothing to fear because they tell partners anyway.

Is this a good idea or a tad fascist?

It wouldn't necessarily be visible during those "quickie up against the wall" encounters...
What was the publication? I'd just like to read it myself if that's ok.
For all the social workers?????

I dont reckon it would work. "no, no lets keep the lights off etc, etc"

and what about blind people!!!
i say that small beads are implanted under the skin of the infected ones penis that spell "UNCLEAN" in braille
Don't blind and partially sighted people have sex, then?

And it is not compulsory for anyone to have a good look at the nether regions before sex .

I haven't heard anything so stupid for a long time.

When you have sex with a woman, what on earth do you do? 'Go downstairs' with a flashlight.

This is love-making man...

..not pot-holing.
I see an opportunity here for advertising our favourite site.
The extended version of the John Thomas could be tattoed ' AIDS BEWARE' which when shrunk to normal size would read 'AB'.
Is "Right Wing Think tank" an Oxymoron?
In the words of Salt n Pepper (I think)

'Oh come on... how many men do you know who make love?'

(For the record that is an off the cuff remark, I'm joking, there is no need to answer that.)
Why stop there - we can arrange for all Jews to go around with a yelow star stitched on ther clothes ... oh no, someone thought of that.

I know, let's have all travelers have a nice big purple 'D' tattooed on their foreheads, and unemployed people can have a big 'S' for 'shirker' - this idea can run and run!

OK, lets'e be serious now.

Denial, and the spread of HIV, is based on ignorance, and the answer is education. A simple idea, but not likely to see fruition unitl the government puts money into the right end of education - pres-school - and children grow up with a sense of self-worth and respect, for themselves and others.

Anyone who has enough complassion to care about others doesn't become infected, or pretend it hasn't happened. People dpon;t think, don;t lewarn, and don't care - that is the root of the issue, start there.

As for the idea of branding people after the event - well who says we live in a more enlightened society - thank god most of us do!
I know this is not answering the question posed but , do you know what has always concerned me about having a tattoo ?

Giving that the instruments used in tattooing ( if there is such a word ) often draws blood - isn't there a high risk of passing a disease from one person to another , especialyy aids , which currently there is no cure for

Persumably , the instruments are cleaned after each person , but surely in the case of aids , simply cleaning wouldn't eradicate the risk ?
Sorry for the hi jack
Bazile, new needles for new person - same as your dentist and doctor.

Why social workers in particular? Would not other job categories have a view on their child having unprotected sex. If not, how do you know.

Would it be visible on the vulva, would not pubic hair obscure the message on the labia majoria and this in turn hiding the labia minora? What does your right wing think tank and your liberal mind, (not sure you should accuse yourself of being liberal given how so many of your posts get banned) perceive how potential sex partners would be able to read the warning signs.
I wanted that famous Welsh place with the real long name tattooed on mine, however best he could manage was Rhyl !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bazile, as said new needles will be used, but what's the point? If only AIDS victims get tattooed anyway, one can hardly catch something one already has???

I still think it is a good idea, and have yet to see any argument against it.
Where would a woman with aids be tattooed.
How about this for a novel idea...

Dont sleep with anybody without using protection.
If the relationship is deemed serious enough to warrant the discontinuation of condoms then both parties agree to a full STD check before continuing.

This is what I have done in the past ( I have had 2 partners) and will do in the future should my present relationship end and I meet someone else.

I know condoms are not 100%, but I believe anyone who is foolish enough to go bareback with someone they barely know (if they are doing it with you, who else have they done it with??) really should not be surprised if they get infected with something nasty.
