Two minds of thought on this...
Yes, it does seem like a pointless waste of time
But... If it was reported as a crime, if someone felt threatened then something had to be done.
And to be fair <BIG DAD, I think it was you a couple of weeks a go saying that police never do anything and now you're complaining because they have. (Apologies if that wasn't you).

I was in McDonalds a few months ago and a couple of young kids (11 or 12 years old) were throwing their food around and trying to make it stick on the ceiling.
One piece of food landed on the table of a family near to the kids and the family looked around to see where it had come from.
I pointed out that it was those two young idiots, and the kids felt so embarresed they got up to leave.
As they walked past me one of them threw a polystyrene container from a burger in my face.
Was that assault ?.
They ran off before I could do anything but I saw them later in the town centre and went up behind him and did a "pincer" on the back of his neck. I warned him that if he ever did that again he would be in big trouble.
Was that assult ?
I would have loved to give the little brat a smack in the mouth but realised the CCTV cameras would catch it all and it would be me that was in trouble.
But where does "fun" stop and assault begin?

My Grandfather is a little bit older than the victim in this. Yes he was an Army boxing champion, still stands 6 feet 2 with a huge barrel chest, but he is not the man he once was.
If some little oik threw a sausage or whatever at him, I would happily tear his eyes out and pi55 in the holes.
As much as I am infuriated with police red tape and targets, the peasant deserved it.
Ahhhhh bless he is on sleeping pills. My heart bleeds, it really does.
At the very least, he needs a good kicking or a plain old fashioned horse whipping.

If the lout had been given a good thrashing and maybe a good old fashion gounding maybe he wouldnt have done it.
Sounds like another case of a yob (and his parent) thinking they can do what they like. The sausage is irrelevant afterall get away with that what is next?
Although I dont always agree with the parents taking all the blame sounds like the mother needs to take alot of reponsibility - anyone see any mention of a father anywhere ?
Surprised the brat hasn't complained about his Human rights being violated.

I thought What a load of nonsense when I heard about this but after watching GMTV this morning it seems that this boy had been in trouble twice before and this was a final warning and he breached the peace. Yes he could have given the old guy a heart attack but it also seems this pensioner hates children and is nasty to them. Yes we should all respect elders but there are some pensioners that think the world owes them. I just cant believe its going to court a caution would have been sufficient when theres real crimes that go to court numerous times and the criminal get let off. Take Pete Doherty for one.
but where do you start and stop in cases like this, this is how the bigger thugs start, just a bit of verbal abuse, then throwing a cocktail sausage then a brick then getting a gun where does it end? i think the police did right to do the things they have done, he said he hated being in the cells, if it stops just one person from becoming a criminal then its worth it
