Was Diana the Best Mother in the World?

Prince Harry stated today that his mother was the best mother in the world, note he did not say "probably" or "in his opinion", the best mother in the world.

Do fellow ABers agree with me when I say this is an insult to all those single parent mothers, who have loved and brought up their children with a lot less support and finances than Diana received.

No Nannies/servants to help them out, they could not take exotic Mediterranean cruises on boy friend's luxury yachts, or roam the world. No these "best mothers in the world" unselfisly sacrificed their own life styles so as to give their children the best that they could afford, without the need to seek an easy life or romance for themselves.

leave the woman alone shes dead,
he didn't say 'probably the best mother in the world' because he is not a Heineken ad perhaps? People are, I believe, entitled to praise their own parents; the only other mother Prince Harry has known will be Queen Camilla, and he has probably drawn his own conclusions about who is better.
Carlsberg jno!
ah yes, quite right, Loosehead! My memory for classical references is failing me.
I heard an abridged news report that gave this a mention. My initial thought was anyone who has not 'faced down' their moody teenager would be remembered with such warmth. I did wonder what my own Wunderkinds would say in the same situation. lol.
i think he meant it to be a personal tribute to himself and william, after all my mum was the best mum in the world according to me,and i am the best mum in the world according to my children, and i am a single parent with no nannies and not much finances but heaps of love.
I think you are reading too much into what Harry meant.

As his mother, of course she was the best mother in the world - which is nothing to do with the wealth and support she had - simply that she loved him unconditionally, as most mothers do.

It's a personal statement - from the heart, I see no problem with it.

fine, thanks Not criticising Diana, I am criticising Harry's statement.

Leave Camilla alone jno she may not be so easy on the eye as Diana was, but looks are not everything. Yes people are entitled to praise their own parents, but not put them above others.

Incidently the reason Carlesberg said probably, was because they were not allowed to use the statement "The Best"
Does saying that your mother is the best in the world put other mothers down? I don't think so! Every child thinks their mother is the best in the world, Harry is no exception. It makes no difference if you have money, nannies or exotic holidays either.
"She was the best mother in the world, notwithstanding the fact that a) I've not encountered every other mother in the world, b) I acknowledge that other children have equally heartfelt - and valid - sentiments to their own parents and c) I in no way wish to lionise the efforts of my own mother at the expense of, or in comparison to, other mothers both in the UK and abroad."

Hmmm. Doesn't quite have the same ring to it. At least not at a f*cking memorial service.
It's a pity she died when she did. The unseen charity work was caring for aids victims visiting their beds in the dead of night. Also underprivileged children. Nowadays celebrities carry out their charity work in the full glare of publicity and hoping for a gong. She asked for nothing in return! It may be sonething to do with the sign of Cancer who are known to be carers. My wife is a Cancerian and children absolutely love her to bits.
Everyone ( well almost) says their mum was the best...
>Leave Camilla alone

She deserves all the critisism she gets.

She was happy to have an affair with Charles while she was married and he was single.

She was happy to have an affair with Charles after he was married to Diana.

If any one person can be blamed for the breakdown of Charles and Diana's mariage it is her (and of course the Queen and Queen Mother (and others) for pushing him into it when he clearly did not want to marry Diana).

And as soon as Diana was dead she was happy to carry on the relationship.

And then to think she had the nerve to want to go to this memorial service.

(I have to say that Charles and the Duke of Edinburgh are somewhat two faced going to it as well considering what they thought of Diana)
After Harry said that she was the best mother in the world he also said "we would say that wouldn't we". Diana was their mum and I don't think that he was insulting anyone. It was a lovely remark made by a man who lost his mum at the age of 12. I think my mum is the best in the world, and I hope my kids think that I am!!
I hate thw woman. In no way is she a hero. There is nothing to be admired about having affaris with numerous men
My mam is definatly the best! Who gives a sausage about who marries who and who has affairs who goes to a memorial service. Surely its for the people involved to deal with and not for us to be outraged about?
mumof3angels sums it up perfectly. Now please let the subject rest.
I am really fed up hearing about St. Di and how wonderful she was. I have no time for the royals, so I am not taking sides. However, I think Charles was an idiot and a wimp for not going ahead and proposing to Camilla while she was still single. It is obvious that she was the love of his life and still is after forty odd years. OK, so he made a mistake, but by god he has paid for it!!

However, as next in line to the throne his job was to marry and provide an heir. He took second best, and by all accounts Diana was chosen for him and he was pushed into the marriage.

Diana was immature, childish, spoilt, manipulative and vindictive and when she realised he was still in love with Camilla her ego was hurt. Was she ever really in love with Charles?

Probably as much as she was in love with the other nine men in her life. Remember them?

Prince Charles - big ears, big ego, big trouble
Barry Mannakee - body to body guard
David Waterhouse - man in uniform
James Gilbey - loyalty gets its reward
James Hewitt - Di: "I adored him"
Oliver Hoare - paints a nice picture
William Carling - scrum down with rugby star
Doctor Hasnar Khan - knew how to care for a woman
Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For Di
Dodi Fayed - true love at last - or at least until no. 11 comes along.

What is worse, a man who has one real love in his life who he cannot forget, or a woman of loose morals who sleeps with a whole string of lovers?

With all these men in her life, I'm surprised she had any time for her kids!

I know people who know people who know people who know Camilla and they say she's really nice. I couldn't care less about her looks, either (I'm no fashion plate). However, vehelpfulguy accurately sums up her part in Diana's marriage; so it's astounding that she was ever expected to come along to a memorial service. 'After the next hymn, the Duchess of Cornwall will perform a little dance on the grave.'
I think you have misunderstood what Harry actually said. He didn't just say she was the best mother in the world, he said "But behind the media glare, to us, just two loving children, she was quite simply the best mother in the world". Meaning that's what they thought as children, as most kids would probably think the same.
