Are the Portuguese police just as efficient as their Greek counterparts, who failed to find Ben Needham, when he vanished in1991.
They did however, a few years later, manage to arrest a dozen British plane spotters and charge them with spying.
The McCanns have not only lost their daughter, but have fallen victim to a hopeless and unprofessional police force, who are now in the process of proving guilt, by insinuation.

Hang on...that's a bit unfair on the Greek police isn't it?

I mean, just because a child goes missing and isn't found doesn't mean that the police are mugs.

Some kids are just never found.

This is real life, not an episode of Poirot where everything is tied up nicely after 90 minutes.

Please let's stop damning the Portuguese police. They are legally obliged to work more secretly than ours (which I believe is far better). However, it does allow all this stupidity from the media led public in wrongly accusing them of being inefficient.

We don't know enough about any evidence to be making any judgements.
Ooohhh the poor Mccanns.

The only person I feel any sympathy is for their missing daughter.

Kids in creche all day

Mothering screaming hysterically at them at bedtime

Leaving them on their own whilst out on the lash

The poor Mccanns...

Renault MaCann - plenty of room for kids in the back!
You are all just like vultures picking over a corpse! - especially you Netibiza!

INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY!

I think everyone giving their tinpot theories on here whether driven from TV, newspaper reports or gossip etc. should be ashamed of themselves.

Getting things in prospective ....

If the mother is involved then the father and the rest of the family have lost a loved one ....

If the father is involved then the mother and the rest of the family have lost a loved one ....

If they didn't have diddly squat to do with it then the whole family will have this tragedy to deal with for the rest of their lives ...

Even debating whether they were foolish to leave her alone in the first place is irrelevant as we all must go through our lives with "there by the grace of God go I" moments where we were lucky something terrible didn't happen to one our loved ones ....

THIS IS NOT A SOAP OPERA OR "REALITY TV" to be dribbled over salaciously .....

If one/both parents are found to be negligent or guilty are you really going to be jumping around going "I told you so", is this really what you're life has come to?

If they are found to be totally innocent are you going to be conspicuous by your absence on these pages ....

PLEASE GROW UP FOR THE SAKE OF THE REST OF MANKIND!!!
Thank you Johnutar, its about time someone said exactly what you have.
johnutar

how can they possibly be found totally innocent? they left their young children alone.....that fact alone has some guilt attached to it...and of course if that was their only part in this tragic event then they will have to live with that for the rest of their lives.

but posting on here on this subject does not make me a vulture.......I find that comment very insulting.....you do not know me but if you did you would know that I grieve for that little girl, and for the pain she is/has suffered and I am perfectly entitled to say so here, without being insulted.
Johnutar - know exactly where you are coming from however.......

Its not that I dislike the McCanns, after all I don't know them. I am just sickened by the initial media circus that constantly held the McCanns up as the victims - almost canonised them!! And as for an audience with the pope!!

Now I know all that was done to raise Maddie's profile, so grist to the mill and all that. But I do honestly think that the media's reaction to them would have been helluva lot different if they were a working class family in Majorca and her mum and dad had gone to The Bulldog Bar for a pint and chip supper. It would have been an audience with the social services that they would have got!!

However, now the McCann media circus (that they helped to create) is working against them. They are being pilloried for something they may not have done.

What I condem them for, and I have said it all along - even when it was an unpopular stance, was leaving the children alone in the first place - if that was indeed the case.

You ask that if they are the be found "totally innocent" will we be conspicuous by our absence. No. I will stand up and be counted because.......

If they haven't murdered her/accidently killed her (and I don't think they have), then they are guilty of allowing the situation of a 4 year old and 2 2 year olds to be on their own for long periods. Popping next door for sugar could have led to abduction but would have been excusable. But leaving them on their own (apparently drugged - tho not sure if thats fact) to go for a meal in a Bistro is unforgiveable. I cannot think on what planet they were to even think it was acceptable. They are not totally innocent either way you look.

Again I condem the press for the attitude both initially and now.
Ditto Maggoty.

Prime suspects, looks and sounds familiar and this happened on the tiny Island of Kos.

The usual incompetence by a foreign police force!
ben needham story - tragic.
thats all i can say really.
Question Author
Were all the parents in these cases prime suspects and subjected to a whispering campaign.
These children simply disappeared, and no one witnessed anything.

I totally agree with you Maggoty.
I also think there is something very strange about their composure in front of the media. If one of my children had been abducted etc I would be TOTALLY devastated and would have broken down in tears, not them though!
Things just don't add up in my opinion.
Ditto - the mother is so composed - I'd be like a blithering wreck...
We all react differently. I can blubber at someone else's tragedy - don't even have to know them. So I would not judge them on their composure. My OH took his 15 year old dog to the vets monday to have her put down. Totally composed whilst there and through all the procedure, then blubbed like a baby in the privacy of his home.

I just think that through all the emotion, hype and media circus that certain steps weren't taken - just because of the hype and the bad publlicity that Social Services (or whichever agency responsible) would have got if they had dared criticise or investigate the McCanns.

It makes nonsense of our child protection stance.
Hi john, I for one will be jumping around saying I told you so.
Has anyone actually had dealings with the Portugese police?

I am fed up hearing that they haven't a clue what they're doing, or that they are inept, careless etc. Their methods may not be the same as ours, and they don't have to give as much information to the public.

The insinuations you are talking about are coming from the British Press! The Police are not giving the press the information they would get if this had happened in UK, so the press are not happy. They want a scapegoat and can't blame the McCanns because 'they are British' so they blame the Portugese Police.

The investigation has taken on a life of its own since the McCanns launched their publicity campaign and it's possible the McCanns have given out details the Portugese would rather have kept to themselves until leads could be followed up, or evidence fully examined. No wonder they are unhappy with the McCanns. Apart from anything else they have put immense pressure on the Portugese police internationally.

They must be getting inundated with calls from all over the world. Can you imagine how much manpower it takes to sift through all those calls and follow them up? The Portugese police must be stretched to their limit. Especially when 99.9% of those calls are either mistaken, malicious or misleading. But they WILL all be followed up.

The McCanns are not 'victims' of anything. At the very least they are guilty of child neglect, and not just the night Maddy went missing. This was not the first time the children had been left alone in the evenings while the parents went out to enjoy themselves.

If you read the comments on sites like this then you will see that only 20% of the writers actually support the McCanns or believe in their innocence. Hardly surprising then that the Portugese Police are still asking the McCanns to clarify points, especially as it would seem that some of their
