They reject the traditional symbol of Christianity, the cross, as being of pagan origin. They translate the Greek word from the Christian Scriptures "stauros" as "torture stake", and believe that Jesus was crucified on a single upright wooden stake with no crossbeam. They view the cross as an Idol and wearing or displaying one is considered idol worship.
I didnt think they recognised Jesus as being the son of god and the messiah, hence denying the cross as being of relevance, or is that Judaism?
JWs say they are not Christians, so to them, the Cross would have no significance.
Perhaps they listen to Bill Hicks?

"A lot of Christians wear crosses around their necks. Do you think when Jesus comes back he ever wants to see a f___in' cross? It's kind of like going up to Jackie Onassis with a rifle pendant on."

As A Christian I do not see the cross as an Idol. I do not pray to it. The Crucifix worn by catholic s, depics Christ still on the cross. As a chistian I believe that would not be a true depiction, or symbolic of the resurection. The empty cross = symbolic of the risen christ. I was not aware that JW's did not consider themselves as Christians.

Thanks to all who have replied. I lookforward to your point of veiw.
my mum used to spend a good 20 minutes arguing with JWs on the doorstep about theology. As a teenager it was a most embarrassing time. I used to dread the doorbell ringing on a Sunday :-(
