I too am new to the site. I have been surprised a few times by what is deemed acceptable and what is extreme. I fully endorse free speech and openness, but I also feel there are appropriate places for everything. Velvet, I was put off by a thread that seemed to change overnight. When I see a thread that is outside of my own comfort zone or values, I just prefer to let them get on with it. But it is disappointing where I�ve tried to offer an honest and reflective contribution to see the threads patina disappear.

Please don�t leave. Our world needs all colours to weave the most beautiful tapestries!

When you read between the lines 99 percent of the Abers are decent folk. Some are nasty with no provocation at all or what seems to be little reason or just because people share different views. Mostly you can find a few answers before hand the same old characters that have been poking them with a sh1tty stick, to get that kind of reaction.

News is generally ok, lots of people with differing opinions but a mutual respect. Some times you even find yourself agreeing on points with the oddest of characters.

I agree with the comment about some users just jumping into a question and ignoring the topic but simply adding a nasty reply or posting a sarcastic you tube link, some people on here are very obsessive. I did also wonder why someone is allowed to be so pointless and post in the wrong topics and not get moved. I don;t mean velevtlady though .

Yes velvet lady I also have noticed the deterioration of the news topics, especially when the kids are home from school. And sometimes from the adults?? who should really go back to school.

Other times it is mainly minority groups who always seem to have a chip on their shoulders, or Guardian reading Lefties who seem to get a little nasty, if they are backed into a corner.
