Postal Strike Justified?

Is another strike justified? Doesn't another strike mean customers will now seek alternative suppliers therefore resulting in the need for more redundancies as a result of lost business? No one wants to be made redundant but if this improves competitiveness and customer service then surely it should be accepted? Or do workers have the right to complain that this is unfair?

Pah! If they don't like the conditions then get another job. I don't particulalrly like my pay or working hours but I wouldn't go on strike. I'd just search for another job.

No it's not justified! "get back to work you lazy f**kers" their all in the pub, at home watching deal no deal, or at Gala bingo. Whilest some poor guys business is going down the tube.

...And when I think about the service the Royal Mail gives me.....well a trained monkey could do better, we better start the monkey training now to fill in for the workers during all the future strikes!

Ok what...the, you obviously have strong views. A trained monkey could do the job? I have you know I train monkeys and actually they find posting letters very difficult! I bet there are monkeys everywhere up in arms across the country, throwing faeces at each other and all sorts!

Personally I think the cost of the basic services I use is very good value for money.

What other supplier is going to deliver an item for 30p.

I dont really know what they are striking about but strikes do no-one any favours

Hubby is a postie here is why they are striking.
Increase in hours.
Take out more junk mail.
Start later finish later.
Do not use your car for work as Royal Mail are not insured for posties to use car, therefore use public transport (buses, trains etc!)
The weight of the bags to go over 44lb each.
Pensions going up the swanny.
need I say more?
I suggest you don't comment until you know the facts about other peoples working lives!! oh and of course less money.
Easier said than done to find another job, we have 2 small children and hubbys job works out fine as I am home in morning and when he comes home I go to work at the local Hospital so it would in theory put us all in a bit of a difficult situation with regard to our family life!! I do think some strikes are actually not necessary and to be honest this saturday he want's to go into work because we can't really afford to lose 4 days pay but those that do strike make life very difficult for those who try to go into work. There is a case at the moment of bullying at his work and the guy that goes in gets called all sorts of names 'SCAB' being the favourite of union members and generally gets treated like an outcast. Now I dont know about you but we are at work a long time and I dont want my hubby to be subject to those working conditions day in and day out but what choice does he have, ?

I think the problem with the strike Fuzzy Bee is that the news doesn't go into a lot of detail. people don't end up having sympathy for the strikers because no one puts forward their point of view. From what you say your hubby has no choice but to strike. I hope it gets resolved. Good luck.

Well FUZZYBEE I have no problem with posties tho I think your mention of pensions is a little irritating. The post office have said that the price increases for stamps and services is needed to top up the pension pot. Something many other organisations cannot resort to.

My complaint is with management. I have recently moved from the Watford area. The sorting office was discovered to be struggling with 500,000 pieces of undelivered mail back in July (existing earlier I am realiably told). Secret filming produced much fuss in the local paper but the PO have yet to sort this out.

During the legal processes of conveyancing and more recently the saga of my 11 week mortgage application, the PO spectacularly hindered proceeding by losing or delaying mail for up to 3 WEEKS!

Even redirecting mail is a joke. They bundle it and send it on in large poly wrapped packets. So behind are they that I was getting redirected stuff 3 weeks (again) from the date the forwarding ended.

My new redirection is worse. I have to make 4 separate complaints to get my money back. I will. I know its a cheapish service but I want my money back.

All involved in the on going situation in Watford and in bad management generally at the PO should hang their heads in shame. It is a vital service being destroyed and the public have no where else to go.

A strike will do no good to anyone in particular the workers themselves. The lost money will never be made up and lets get real if the RM doesn't shake up it will be dismantled.
I do know what I am talking about, my borhter in law and some of may mates work there. Believe me there aer plenty of peple there who you just wouldn't give a job to. Lazy, drunk skivving you name it you will find it rife down there.
In addition I know many who dont want to strike but are bullied into it. Who says bullying is not in the workplace - there's one for all you liberals.

I beleive the PO workers want to think VERY carefully. I worked at Fords Southampton, when aprox 2000 worked. Now looking at it, there is probably less than 500.
