2 Little Boys.

2 boys aged 6 & 7 were killed crossing a motorway in the dark last night.. The father of one of the boys said that he had told the lad not to play near the motorway....need I say more...is this another example of parents who don't care where their kids are as long as they aren't 'bothering' them.

Kids do do daft things when i was a kid my mates used to lie in between the track while a train goes over them..
Crazy i no but kids will always do stupid things there parents cant be with them 24/7..
OK there only 6/7 but they might of sneaked out so you cant always blame the parents...

I didn't listen to my parents when I was told not to go near the cliffs where I live or not to play on the treeswing in the woods....or even go into the woods after sundown, but I did it anyway. It's only as an adult I know they told me for my own safety rather than to be party poopers.
Sure, I don't think kids of that age should have even been out if it was dark, but to assume the parents viewed the kids as a bother? :0/

So...if I'm right, it seems that these two wee lads decided to go off on their own. Parents reported them missing, so they were obviously concerned for their safety.
I feel so sorry for all involved - the little boys, their poor parents and the drivers, too - what an awful thing to have to live with. Like I said before, a tragedy.

Ok Dakota ( can't do your fancy brackets ) Yes I agree perhaps it was a bit harsh, but sometimes I can't understand why children so young are left to their own devices. 6 & 7 you must admit is a bit too young to be left for any amount of time. I have had children and now I have grand children and I would have thought that these poor boys should have been home long before dark.
Yep, they are far too young, IMO, to have been left alone at that time of day (I'm sure I was in bed at that time at that age!), but I don't know the circumstances, they may have been playing in the back garden and sneeked out.
It really is a tragic accident and I feel for the families and the driver, I don't think there is anyone in particular who should be blamed.

It is very sad for all concerned, tragic accidents happen, there are various levels of risk everywhere which is why I try and manage this risk as best I can for my kids, which for me would have included my 7 yearold not being out at that time, but that's me, there may be things I allow that others wouldn't. And we learn constantly about risks that exist, unfortunately usually due to tragic stories of others. For example the young girl helping carry the dishes who was killed by a shard of pyrex casserole dish and the 15yr old who fell on a knife in an open dishwasher, both of these have altered my risk management.
pussnboots you are absolutely spot on. Any right thinking parent would want kids of that age home well before dark. And I would want to have mine playing much nearer home at their ages too. If they have been better supervised then they would not have been 'missing' at 7pm. Surprised you do not have more support here.

it was only 7.30, it gets dark early these days. I used to play outside that late. Of course when I was told not to play in the road I didn't (not that there was such a thing as traffic in those days, about one car an hour on my street - not joking) but not all kids are quite so obedient. Mine, for instance. Parents didn't watch over their kids 24/7 in my day - we'd go out and play for hours - and they don't now.
My kids are 10 and 12, but they have to be in by a certain time, and we always know where they are. If it's with friends - we take them and they're brought back. You can't keep a 24/7 watch on what they get up to - but you can try your best. I was very sorry to hear about these poor children however, and feel sorry for their parents and the driver.
I don't think Puss that parents are always to blame I was raised in a house near to the Leeds Liverpool canal and my mother said to me every day DON'T go near that canal, so where did we spend our time?

Ok they were supposedly told not to do this and that but that's not the point here. Why were they allowed out at that age so late? People have children, so people should supervise and look after them at all times - no excuses - otherwise if you can't manage to do this or can't be bothered after a day at work then don't have children.

I heard one of the Fathers talking on manchester radio news the day AFTER and he said 'I told him not to go near the motorway but its unfortunate that he did'.
Unfortunate??? What kind of comment is that. The 'emotion' in his voice sounded like he was talking about his dog. Harsh but true!
