Italy starts the EU immigration backlash
14 Answers
So at last one country (Italy) is waking up to the disaster of an enlarged EU. Allowing countries like Romania to join was a terrible decision on any level.

It is almost like leaving your front door wide open and hoping that only good and kind people will come into your house and not criminals.
As the article says:
"In the past 18 months Romanians have been responsible for 76 murders, more than 300 rapes and 2,000 robberies in Italy, according to police statistics. Nearly 400 Romanians have been charged with kidnappings, mostly involving prostitution, and 6,000 with receiving stolen goods".
Maybe at last we in the west will rise up against the stupidity of an enlarged EU (all all the problems it brings) and try to get rid of it.
The quicker we get out of the EU the better.

I wonder why they didn't say how muc that represented overall?
Because it's less than 1% perhaps?
I think we had this discussion a while ago and discovered that per head of population in London immigrants committed less crimes than natives.
Then there was a lot of bluster and the thread went quiet!
Remind me what nationality these people were

Peter Sutclifffe
Myra Hindley
Ian Huntley

Damn EU serial killers!

Or put another way Jake, if those Romanians had not been let into Italy, 76 people would be alive today, 300 womens' lives wouldn't have been destroyed by being raped and 2000 people would not have had their property stolen.
Yes, we do have our own home-grown murderers, rapists and robbers. So explain to me why we need to import even more from Eastern Europe.

I wonder if jake-the-peg lives in Slough it is not only the crime that is the problem. And of course he makes a rather silly point by quoting our infamous serial killers.
The whole point is why should we be so keen importing even more criminals, when our Police, courts and prisons, are overstretched coping with the ones we already have.

What a nice family group they make. I wonder how many of them are Doctors, Nurses or work in Banks, Building Societies, GP Surgeries, Bars, Shops, Council Offices, or Solicitors Offices as sp1814 would have us believe?

Big Dad I'm as impressed as ever
Your intellect is only matched by your turn of phrase.
Why is it a silly point to demonstrate that we have home grown serial killers.
Actually they all seem to be home grown.
Pointing to immigrants who break the law and damning them all is as mindless as pointing to Catholic priests that are convicted of child abuse and accusing the entire church of paedaphillia.
There are many immigrants doing excellent work in this country not least in the health service.
My wife recently had an operation performed by an excellent Hungarian surgeon, overseen by a world class consultant surgeon and professor of surgery originally from Sierra Leone
I suppose you want to send them home too?
The world has changed - sorry if you don't like it but it's not going away

You're right. The EU is too big! Poland allows it citizens to invade the UK and pinch our jobs and houses. At the same time they take unilateral action with the US to site missiles in Poland which can only make the EU a target. Talks are underway to admit Turkey, a nation of Muslims and where it has been proven that multiculturism or multi faith societies do not work.
We should come out of the EU and renegotiate with our main trading partners France and Germany and at the same time close our borders to any immigrants for a period of 10 years.

Nice one Kwicky
Break the trading agreement we have with France and Germany and try to negotiate new better ones
I can hear the ghost of DeGaul now "Non"
You've got to stop trying to turn back the clock, the world is changing so fast that small countries out on their own have no clout whatsoever.
The Americans do what they like and ignore us - Bush raised illegal steel embargos a few years ago we could do nothing.
We only have clout if we stick together as a large European power.
The EU have not been afraid to take on Microsoft - can you see this Government doing that?

Whats that saying Jake about a chain is only strong as the weakest link. Apply this to the EU with its 27 members and you have a whole lot of duffers.who insist on equal voting rights but do not possess any power. How many have contributed to the forces in Afghanistan? Hardly any!
If we all insist of going our own sweet way the EU club has no effectiveness. Better to know its limitations and take a backward step.
I was once a firm believer in a strong EU but seeing how it has turned out a new direction is necessary.
