Ed, I posted a msg which contained the word "do***ents" and it has been partially replaced by asterisks - but why? The sense is clear all the same but I wonder what's wrong with "do***ents"?

*come* now vittoria - surely you can see how the gentle folk who gather on Answerbank would be offended by such profane terms even if you did try to hide it within a larger, inoffensive word.
If you check the answer that you posted I have stated my opinion there. Never spotted this post until after I read your answer.
Indeed, you just try posting the name of a Yorkshire town where the A18 meets the M181

Thanks for the replies; indeed, it was only after posting the above that I spotted someone else's msg pointing out that a seemingly innocent word had been censored for containing the *** (I am saving the filter trouble by using the asterisks myself). Well - I stand corrected...

Found it, it was cir***stances (my asterisks); that's when the penny dropped. I am losing my innocence fast here.
Fitzer, since when has "Sunny Scunny" been in Yorkshire?
This sort of cretinous censorship saps the will to live from me. I suspect the people responsible are doing it simply to drive me toward despair and eventually suicide.
Users, please note that the site Editors have taken note of the currently oversensitive profanity filter and this will shortly be resolved.

Thank you Editor, I think some amendments, if possible, are a good idea as the unintended side effect is that people's attention is being drawn to the "rude" part - I mean I would never have noticed anything about circ*mstances, doc*ments or even S*thorpe without the asterisks!!!
That's a Geography A level for you, somehow I'd got it fixed in my head that Sunny Scuny was in South Yorks, I hang my head in shame SteveD
