Blondie was top of the pops with heart of glass, curly wurlys cost 7p and the big corgi james bond lotus espirit was the toy to have, unless you could afford the starsky and hutch gran turino. Chopper wasnt a rude word either and Maggie thatcher was about to start her reign in office.

Do you mean vaguely 1979 generally, or specifically anniversary-of-now stuff? If the latter, 750 people were killed on 22nd July 1979 by a tidal wave in Indonesia; on 23rd July 1979 the cabinet agreed spending cuts of �4 billion; and in Iran Ayatollah Khomeini banned broadcasting of music because it "corrupts youth". oh, and on 26th July 1979 I had my 11th birthday. And on 23rd July 1979, Michael Foot had his 66th birthday.
